Do you have a problem with the vehicle that leads you to feel that this proceedure is neccesary?I work on Jaguars and seldom find the need to disassemble an engine without a need. The only true inspection of this type is an NDI which is basically an xray.Very expensive. Its cheaper to just guess this is the problem and replace the part. What exactly is your complaint?

Testimonial: "Not sure if this is the right place to reply, Glen. I think either the head gasket has blown, or the head is cracked"

    Glen, thank you for replying.
I think either the head gasket has gone, or the head is cracked.
I would be unwilling to get that xray done due to its price, i'd rather take it apart. It would prob cost as much as the car is worth.
I I think i can borrow tools to do this, but i'm not sure where to start with it, i could use any advice you can offer, thank you for your time.

My 2012 BMW 750 I WHEN IDLES WHITE SMOKE COMES FROM THE TAILPIPES with 36,000 miles what do that means

White smoke means engine coolant is entering the engines cylinder's . Which could be a bad head gasket , cracked head or block , or intake manifold gaskets ! I wouldn't drive it like this you could damage the engine more !

the engine is leaking coolant internally, via either a bad head gasket, cracked cylinder head, or cracked block.

  • SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED A HEAD JOB. CRACKED HEAD OR NEED A HEAD GASKET. CHECK YOUR ENGINE OIL IF IT HAS WATER IN IT OR IF WATER IS LEAKING OUT OF TAIL MUFFLER ITS A CRACKED HEAD. IF NOT ITS HEAD GASKET. ANOTHER THING WHICH COULD BE IS FIRST MAKE SURE THAT THE WATER PUMP IS NOT LEAKING WATER CUZ IF IT IS THEN IT WILL BE THAT. SOMETIMES RUNNING YOUR VEHICLE WITH A BROKE WATER PUMP HEATS UP ENGINE CAUSING HEADS TO CRACK WHEN FILLING WITH WATER BUT USUALLY THE HEAD GASKET GOES FIRST. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thinking about buying a 1994 BMW 320i because i've always wanted a BMW, although the head gasket is completely blown and undriveable. What are the chances of me finding a mechanic to do the job on such an...

head gasket repairs will cost you thousands 2 at the least as it involves stripping down half your engine, if the engine starts and you can run the car for more than 40 mins you are in luck, there is this stuff called SEAL UP i think the brand is CARGO you pour it in your radiator and it chemically welds your head gaskets and other cracks back together and lasts for ages and actually works brilliantly assuming the crack isn't to big used it on my car last nite as i had blown head gasket and it runs great now

Rapid overheating. New thermostat didn't fix it. Head removed... gasket ok. No apparent cracks in head. Main fan/clutch seems to work ok. Any ideas ? Mike in NZ

I know that this is going to sound like of dumb but I would check and make sure your thermostat was installed the correct way. I had a similar issue once, after replacing the entire cooling system on a 750iL it still over heated, turned out I put in the thermostat the wrong way. Always check for little mistakes first:) Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate me.
