The Engine Control Module (
ECM)
is in constant communication with the other control units (e.g.
Transmission, Body, etc). When there is a problem with a system other
than the engine control, the
ECM is requested to turn the engine light ON and set the P1613 code.
P1613
indicates that there one of the control module have requested the Engine
Control Module (ECM) to turn ON the check engine lamp. Usually the
P1613 code is combine with another code.
Generally speaking, there is a problem with a module that is NOT the engine control module, so it will not affect how the car starts or runs-but you may develop a problem with your ABS, or your remote keyless entry-or any other module that controls a subsystem. It can be caused by something as simple as a bad connection in a harness or connector. If it were me, I'd disconnect the battery at the negative post, leave it off for 5 minutes, hook it back up and start the car and let it IDLE for 5 minutes-then drive it gently for another 10, allowing the sensors to reset the engine computer and the engine computer to get used to 'new' feedback. This might cure it-worth a try, anyway. If you can get someone with a good scanner that does live data, chances are it will also do manufacturer' specific codes (P1613 is a Hyundai specific code) it might pick up additional codes related to what module is unhappy.
