Question about 2000 GMC New Sierra 1500
The check oil level light is'nt the change oil reminder light and it has one of them too. The check oil leval light uses a senser on the side of the oil pan just above the internal baffle that when covered with oil turns the light off but if real dirty or bad or the wire broken or disconnected anywhere it'll leave the light on. If the dipstick says theirs enough oil and you feel that you've put in the required 5 quarts of oil after the change with a new filter then the senser or it's wires are bad and need to be repaired. I've changed a bunch of these sensers and they do fail from overheating and most of the time if their bad their leaking a little bit too. Thier expensive too so alot of peaple just disgrgard them or remove the bulb or short the wire to turn the light off. The last one I bought was nearly $100 and not all models of the same car have this feature as I've seen the same model with out the light or the senser.
