SOURCE: replace rear axel bearing on 4x4 5.3 Litre gas engine
Loosen differential cover and let oil drain. Remove cover, remove U lock from axel. Pull axel out. Remove bearing seal then bearing. Install new bearing, seal and reinstall axel. Reinstall U lock and new cover gasket. Fill with 75-90wt gear oil. Now I know that sound pretty straight forward. But there are some things to remember. The U lock can be difficult to remove sometimes. The most important thing is the seal, you will need to make sure it gets seated correctly and not torn when installing axel.

the connections near the front axle that activate the motor to engage the system aren't melted? That's a comon problem for that body style. If there good, sounds like it could be that motor itself. To figure out if it's you motor or transfercase, jack up the rear end, have a friend inside shift into 4 wheel drive, or try to, and put it in gear and apply some gas. If the front driveshaft is turning then it's something with the front end. If not, farther back in the system.

These have a problem with a injection pump control. It is a black box on the drivers side of the Injection pump. Either that or maybe a lift pump. When it dies, after it sits a while does it start right back up?
SOURCE: how do you install an alternator 95 gmc sierra
1] disconnect the positive battery cable. 2] remove the serpentine belt. you need a socket wrench to remove the tension from the idler arm pulley. 3]disconnect the battery wire from the alternator, and unclip the other smaller wire from the other side of the alternator. 4] remove the bolts that hold the alternator to the engine. 5]install the new one in the reverse order hope this helps

Try to locate the cause of the discharge current as below:-
While vehicle electrical system shutdown as for overnight storage, connect an ammeter (with suitable current capacity and sensitivity) across the main ground connection between the battery -ve terminal and vehicle chassis/frame - (-ve of the ammeter to -ve battery terminal post, +ve to vehicle frame),
Carefully disconnect the main battery ground cable from the chassis,
The ammeter will now measure the battery discharge current - a discharge current in the order of 0.5 amp or more is of concern.
If all is well, the current draw should not exceed 50- 100 mA.
Note- Do not switch on any load while ammeter is connected, as ammeter damage or overload will occur.
If an excessive discharge current is observed, remove all fuses etc to eliminate / locate cause.
