3.8, correct? Look for something like a harness not reconnected (Mass Air Flow sensor, Throttle Position Sensor), or a vacuum line off-there may be an issue with your security system too, so make sure you reset it with your door opener (lock, unlock). Worst case, try disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 5 minutes and reconnect it, start it and let it idle for 5 minutes, then drive it a few more to reset the computer and have it relearn sensors.

Where is the throttle *****, to adjust the idle in an 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

There is no provision for adjusting idle , the PCM - engine computer controls idle by IAC - idle air control valve . If you mess up the base idle the computer will set codes an not run very good . Go on you tube an check out some videos on IAC operation .

Shakes a little once its started and has problems staying idle then it cuts off. we try to replace the spark plugs but that didn't help either.

Check the EGR valve sounds like its stuck in the open position.Take it off and clean with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and wire brush.

Car shuts off while driving, i can start the car almost immediately after it shuts down. i do not have to hit anything. it also has a slight miss. i changed the spark plugs, wires, and the coil packs...

Hi!!

I got a 99 Intrigue, I had a similar problem with mine, it had to do with the alternator plug and the red thick wire that was loose.

Check the positive wire coming from the battery to the alternator and from the battery to the fuse box for tight contact and corrosion. If all connections seem fine, take vehicle to AutoZone or similar autoparts and have charging system tested. They will do it for free.

Keep me posted!!

My Intrigue just cut off as soon as I started it and it wont start at all

if it turns over. check for plugs firing by pulling off a sparkplug wire ands placing it on the motor ... DO NOT HOLD IN HAND while some 1 turns motor over look for spark ... if no spark than most likely the crank sensor went out. if helpful please rate

Start and stop

Top candidates for this problem are:
Clogged Fuel filter
Faulty Fuel pump
Clogged fuel injectors
Dirty / worn spark plugs

Of these, only the clogged fuel injectors are likely to respond to a gas tank additive, and even then you need to get the right kind of additive.
If your fuel filter has not been changed in a while (couple years), start with this. It is fairly easy to change. The fuel filter is under the car near the the driver's side rear door.
If this problem started "suddenly," then the fuel pump might be the culprit.
Fuel injector / spark plug issues are not likely to stop the engine right away, but would tend to cause it to miss cylinders, idle rough, or start rough.
