No the water pump is probably fine unles it is leaking. You may need a new heater core.

Can taking out thermostast stop car from heating

No. The thermostat opens when engine reaches a given temperature. Taking it out means engine is cooled. From starting so engine takes longer to heat to proper working temperature. If car isoverheating it could well be thermostat is faulty and not opening. Take it out and hang it in a saucepan (not touching ) as water heats the status should start to open. If you've a thermometer check it opens at stated temp( stamped on stat eg82 degrees Celsius. If it does not open by 100 replace with a new one.
leaving stat out should stop car overheating but is not advised for too long.

Sounds like you have air in the coolant system.. did you bleed the system after you replaced all this?.. did you replace the thermostat? You might add a comment about why you replaced these things .. and how you know they were failing>

1995 sentra heat problem.i done the head and replaced the water pump and redaitor cap and just had the head skimmed when i go on a hill its heating

Did you change the thermostat. It might be stuck halfway open. When you start to go up a hill, the engine heats up more, the thermostat needs to open more, to let more coolant by to the radiator.

Over heating. Have bypassed thermostat and still over heats. Blows water out overflow tank but lower radiator hose is not hot. Can feel it is just warm.

I don't understand what you mean when you say that you have bypassed the thermostat because it is impossible to do, by what you are saying I think that the thermostat is'nt opening up &needs to be replaced ( are you know what & where the thermostat is)....hope this helps........cheers.

Have an 2003 Olds Alero 2.2L, overheating. Removed thermostat housing/feed pipe to check thermostat to find no thermostat present, however the heat has working, although it has took 5 or 6 minutes to warm...

I can't give you any specifics on how to change your water pump, but I can answer your questions about the thermostat. Yes, the heat will work withou a thermostat. And yes, a car will overheat without one, especially in the summer months. The purpose of a thermostat is to allow cooler water to flow into your block, but also to allow the water adequate time to be cooled in the radiator. Without the thermostat, water is continuously cycling through your coolant system, getting hotter and hotter. Often I see people with malfunctioning thermostats jsut remove them, sometimes on the side of the road, just to get where they're going.

The other day my check engine light came on after my engine started overheating. I did a diagnostic reading on it and the code came up P1258. What does that entail?

code po 1258 is an overheating code, need to check why u r overheating, start simple, do u have fluid, has it been changed , might need thermostat, how old is truck,. is there a leak anywhere.do pressure check on radiator and see if it leaks, check radiator temperature vs engine temperature. get a thermo scanner they work good. point and it reads how hot . if motor is hotter replace thermostat. check make sure oil level is good. get back to me let me know what u find..

Put on new water punp and theromstat still take long tiem to warm up dodge dakota 1949 3.9 how can i fix this

Confirm the Thermostat you replaced it with. Same heat rating? Also, when it finally does warm up, does it stay within the normal operating range? If it's "overheating" then you still have a flow/blockage issue (heater core, hose, engine block etc)..

My 2005 Grand Prix has no heat and my gas mileage is awful. would changing thermostat fix problem. also at night not sure if this has anything to do with problem only my blue temperature arrows light...

A FAULTY THERMOSTAT STUCK OPEN WILL EFFECT GAS MILEAGE AND CAUSE POOR OR NO HEAT CONDITIONS.THERMOSTAT NOT A HARD JOB TO FIX.ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS DRAIN OUT SOME OF THE COOLANT IN A DRAIN PAN.DRAIN COOLANT LEVEL BELOW THERMOSTAT.IF YOU HAVE 3.8L ENGINE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON TOP INTAKE MANIFOLD.IF YOU HAVE 5.3L ENGINE FOLLOW TOP RADIATOR HOSE IT WILL LEAD YOU TO THERMOSTAT HOUSING.REMOVE HOUSING THERMOSTAT INSIDE THE HOUSING.IF YOU HAVE WATER INLET ANDTHERMOSTAT IN ONE COMPLETE UNIT OR HOUSING YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WATER INLET HOUSING WITH NEW THERMOSTAT.THIS TYPE UNIT WILL HAVE LONG PIPE WITH BYPASS PIPE WITH WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT. ONCE YOU REPLACE THERMOSTAT.IF YOUR RED ARROWS OFF AND HEAT STILL DONT WORK THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT.WITH NEW THERMOSTAT AND PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE GET COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT.SEE HOW HEAT WORKS.IF NOT YOU HAVE A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AT AC AND HEATER CONTROL SWITCH.

My nissan max continues to over heat. i replaced the radiator. but the mechanic did not replace the thermostat properly. do you think the over heating is due to needing a new thermostat?

not at all times can thermostat contol your cooling system, check for water leaks, water pump, radiator fans(check for speed) if all your cooling systems are good , replace your cylinder head gasket,

A new heater core and thermostat was put on, but it still just blows out cold air. How do we get it to heat?

If the hoses ,rad and heater core have been flushed, check, replaced, then you are now down to a coolant flow problem. This meens either the water pump belt is slipping or the punp fins have rotted off and you need a new pump.
