Question about 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Idles well. stalls when i put it in drive and push gas pedal. then it won't start again. when i do get it started much later, it moves when in drive, but when i touch the gas pedal it stalls out & won't restart again

SOURCE: running rough

Several things to check but first is pull each plug and check for fouling. There are about 5 sensors totaling 150.00 or more that can cause this but it turns out I had a bad injector where the plug was fouling. Throttle Position Sensor(TPS), Mass Air Pressure sensor(MAP), and Coolant Temp sensor(CTS) will make the computer think it needs more or less fuel. Also I have discover that this engine has a bad reputation for blowing the intake manifold gasket due to improper torque from factory. Dont know if this is related but this forum has helped me alot.

if u checked the codes and it showed that a o2 sensor is bad make sure ur on the rite one as in {sensor 1 bank1 or sensor1 bank 2} when u change a sensor always make sure u got the rite one.

Most likely it is running too ritch. should be around 7%. Mine did ecactly the same thing and I had several things done . Had the throttle body cleaned and installed a O2 senser.runs great now.

check for black smoke at exhaust. stuck choke.... clean with carb. cleaner. could need adjusted. possible stuck float. no quick fix. diry fuel filter. replace.

SOURCE: 94 Bravada that stumbles and stalls.. won't start when warm..

Try checking the exhaust flow when someone else is pushing down on the gas petal.The farther the petal gos down,the more exhaust should be coming out. I replaced my catalitic convertor at 44000 miles, it was clogged. I had them install a high flow type.

Car will not start without pressing gas pedal to keep idle speed up. If I keep idle at 900 RPM or higher it runs as long as foot is on gas pedal. It then stalls out when I take foot off gas pedal. No...


Have the idle bypass valve checked, also called idle air control valve.
If that valve is stuck in the closed position, it's not allowing the fuel to bypass the throttle plate to keep it idling, resulting in stalling, but will keep engine running if the pedal is pushed down.

2001 Accent wont start, when it does it will idle but not drive


sounds stupid but the last time something like this happened it was a loose ht lead....but im sure you checked that already.
idle should be 850/900
liquid is only condensate in rear box
have you looked for an air leak in the pipe from the inlet to the brake servo?

Try depressing slightly the gas pedal to see if the engine continues to run when you put it in gear. Might have to depredd gas pedal and brake simultaniusly. if the engine continues to run, then the problem is in the idle circuit. Try decarboning the throttle body and the idle speed control.
