Question about 2003 Kia Rio

1 Answer

I got a 2003 Rio with blown engine( manual),I put in running engine from a 2004 auto.Hooked everything up,but it will not start.Getting gas to the fuel rail, but doesn't even try to kick, spray start fluid in air box,it stumbles a little, Is there a difference between the auto/manual? Could the computer be bad from previous engine failure? Checked all connections everything is where it should be and tight. What controls the ignition? Thanks Mike

You will need the computer from the automatic.

hmmm. I know you would need the comp because of the trans differences. A few things to try:
Remove a spark plug, and check to see if fuel is reaching the cylinders-if so, there is an ignition problem, you can put the spark plug in the wire and hold it about 1/4 inch above some metal on the body, like a strut tower.old it with a pair of rubber handled pliers. make sure you h If spark, there is a timing issue-im not sure how to reset the timing with a coil pack, you can google and find out easily. If there is no spark, the coil is the next thing id check. can be tested the same way as with the spark plugs. If you are getting spark from the coil. The coil pack is bad. if no spark, there should be a crank sensor or cam sensor that might be at fault. I dont have any other ideas than that.

TPS ( throttle position sensor) could be out of adjustment or bad. If it was a timing issue it would run poorly or backfire

I recently purchased a 2004 Kia Rio. It is in excellent condition. A week ago, before registering it, we had an inspection and oil change done. Everything runs great, there are no problems with this car...

Hi:
I have not heard of an oil change causing a check engine light.

A good plan is to have your Kia scanned, to see what the code is that tripped the check engine light. Most auto parts stores, such as autozone, will do this for free.
Some codes are very simple, such as a loose gas cap.

Once you find out what the code is, you can then make an educated decision on what to do.

How do I get to the diagnostic codes for my 2003 Rio. The check engine light has beem on for months but it runs fine so I'm thinking it may be a O2 sensor or something.

take to an auto store most such as auto zone / advanced auto offer the scan for free the code will narrow down where the problem is so u can repair the car

I have a Kia Rio 2004, I can't start it. It stopped on my at an intersection. It cranks but it won't turn over. I was thinking it was the battery, but I wasn't because a jump didn't get it to start. I was...

There are several things that can cause this. Worse case scenario, the timing belt broke and you are going to have one heck of a time getting everything repaired. Before you go pulling the fuel pump and everything, check your fuses, on the engine valve cover there may be a small circlular rubber plug you can remove, remove this and while looking at the hole have some one turn the engine over. If, while the engine is turning, you don't see the sprocket that is visible once you remove the plug turning STOP. The timing belt has broken. You will need to rebuild the engine at least partially and depending on what kind of damage was done may have to remove the cylinder head and have it repaired as well. Another step to verify is to do a compression check on the motor and see if you have compression on all cylinders. No compression after a situation like this can also indicate a broken timing belt. Unlike most v-6 motors the typical 4 cylinder uses a belt instead of a chain and is only really visible after partial disassembly. With the electronic coil pack you can no longer just look at the Distributor to see if it turns.

MY 2004 RIO STOPPED RUNNING AT A STOP SIGN AND WOULD NOT RESTART.. TURNS OVER BUT DOESN'T START, SOUNDS LIKE IT ISN'T GETTING GAS.

buy some brake clean. spray a little in throttle body. if it starts and stalls you need a fuel pump or you lost power to the fuel pump. If nothing changes you may have a bad crank sensor or ignition issue.
