1990 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz reading shows the code e52. How do I fix?

Question
90 Cadillac sedan deville 4.5L My car won't turn over all the power is gettin to the vehicles dash tried the trouble shooting it said it was the ECM memory reset so I changed the ECM computer and it is still doin the same thing some people say it might b the saftey neutral switch but i want to no from someone with experience opinion. I have changed the ignition module and the ECM computer recently and it still does nothing

Answer
Hi Chris, The code E52 just means that the ECM lost power or ground or that someone forgot to clear the code after hooking the battery back up. It could mean a bad computor but not very often. 2 things that come to mind is a bad ignition key or lock cylinder or a faulty neutral safety switch. Try the other ignition key first. Then with your foot on the brake pedal hold the key in the start position and move the shifter slowly from P to D. If it tries to start then the NS Switch is bad or out of adjustment. If it still won't start then you will need to troubleshoot the ignition key/PASS KEY system for an open wire in the steering column. Hope that helps. Bill

The warning light that looks like an engine is lit up

That is your "Check Engine Light" / "Service Engine Light". It means the Computer (ECM / PCM / ECU, it goes by many names) has detected a problem with one or more parts on the engine or transmission.
The easiest way to find out, is to stop by an auto parts store (like Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc) and have them hook up a Scan Tool to read the Trouble Codes from the ECM. They do that for free. Most if not all garages/mechanics also have the necessary Scan Tool as well, but most of those will charge you just to read the codes.

Service engine soon light on

All you have to do is take it to Autozone or O'reilly auto parts or one of the auto parts chains. They have a hand held analyzer they can hook to your car's ecm and read a code, Then they will look up the code and tell you what it means. Do that first.

03 mercury mountaineer, service engine soon light came on. i was told it needed a oil change . we did that , now how do i get the light to go off ?

Your Service Engine Soon light has nothing to do with reminding you to change your oil. The light is controlled by the ECM (Computer) in your vehicle. It monitors various sensors in your engine and compares them to variables or programs that is in its memory. When something is not registering correctly or is outside of its parameters it will turn on a MIL(Malfunction Indicator Light)or in your case a Service Engine Soon light. You will need a OBD II ( On Board Diagnostic) reader or scanner to hook up to your diagnostic port under your driver's side footwell to read what code the ECM is putting out. Than with the code the mechanic can look up the code to see what part is sending a malfunctioning. The scanner can also read and erase the code too. You can have your code pulled up with a OBD II scanner for free from any AutoZone store.

Can not read ecm code for emission check in GA

Normally if you can't get a reading from the ecm the ecm is dead, and goes to default mode meaning it will run ok but is at base timing and won't kick in to closed loop having the 02 sensor controlling fuel and timing, they did this because if the past if the ecm failed the car was a pull toy so you sat on the side of the road so the ecm could be bad. You could have someone do a pin out on the ecm but it would take more time than it would cost to replace the ecm.
