I've had this same problem for years. I took it to a Saturn dealership and explained the problem to them, but they didn't know what it was and did not fix the problem. the key still gets locked in the ignition every now and then. It seems to be totally random. very strange.

Same problem with my 2005 Ion. Dealership showed me where to push the reset - that's it.

    I have the same problem.

My key is stuck in the ignition also but I can't get it to come out even when I press the release button under the steering wheel. I have to pull the ignition fuse and disconnect the battery cable in order to get the car to shut off completely. I've tried several other things but no cigar.

2002 honda civic key stuck in ignition, won't start, shift lever stuck

Your Civic has immobilizer, which means it will not allow duplicate keys. There are high chance that your old keys are worn out and this could be the reason. Any ways i would suggest you how to remove the keys but involves bit technical work . The LHS dash board part can be unscrewed and removed fully using the car manual, once removed the key holder joints to 4 brace compartment and there is a button beneath it, you need to press the small red button to release the key. This is not a standard method of removal, if your car has security alarm make sure you turn it off.. please remember - this suggestion should be followed only if this is your car. I;m not responsible for the solution being incorrectly followed without following manual.

Gear shift is not totally in the park position - had the same problem with a 2011 Acura TL - a rubber band kept the gear shift lever from totally seating in the park position.

How do i take a 96 pontiac boneville stearing column off, our ignition where the key will not turn on or off it is stuck but we need to know how to take the stearing column off

before doing this try pushing shift lever firmly upwards to park
may not be fully engaged
other wise you need to removed stterig wheel and other omponents
to reach ignition switch
if you never done one can get tricky take pictures as you go
also after repair is done test all operation in a area free of dangers
make sure all works

Need to remove cover arount stearing weel but ignition need to come out first how to take ignition out

There are 4 holes in the bottom of the steering wheel column cover. 3 of them are the screws you removed.
The 4th hole ( towards the ign cylinder ) is the release pin.
Turn the key to the Run position
Insert a punch or drift in the hole, while pulling out on the key, it should slide right out if you have the release tab pressed in far enough.

Someone broke in my 2002 ford explorer and try to hot wire the car. he fail but left me with a mess. the steering column is broken wire is cut. i want to fix this on my own because anywhere i ask to fix it...

get a doner stearing column from nearest salvage,(thats what i would try). youll prolly have to buy a new key tumbler assembly and program the key to the computer anti theft sytem.
to program the new key, assuming all goes well with the new column and the new key tumbler, put the new key in ignition, turn key on for 15min, time it with a watch. after 15 min turn key off.
wait 15 more minutes. time that,
now after the 15 minutes u should b able to turn key on and start the vehicle.
the key tumbler/key switch kit should come with those instructions.
also if u buy a doner stearing shaft, i like when they let me pull it, lock the stearing wheel w/key so it doesnt turn.
there is a sensor called the "CLOCK SPRING," if u turn the wheel to far around while disconecting the stearing shaft at the bottom of column, u ruin this sensor and end up with a airbag lite on.
so b careful not to rotate the wheel more than two times in one direction the sensor is about 119 bucks u dont have to remove the stearing wheel to swap the column assemblys

Key stuck in ignition of Trailblazer.

There is a small 1/4'' oblong cover plate on the underside of the stearing column. Pop this out and there is a button you push in ( like the Crysler key relase) and this will allow you to remove the key.

Key Stuck in ythe ingnition

There is a hole under the steering column right near the ignition switch, if the key gets stuck, stick a pen or something in the hole, you will feel the little lever move and you can remove the key.

My key is stuck in my ignition

your problem is a solenoid Worth about 500 bucks in your steering column there is a small cover on the bottom of your steering column take this cover off and stick a pen up inside to push the button in this will release your key. a permanent solution is to jam something inside to hold the button in all the time. it wont hurt anything i've had mine like this for over a year
