SOURCE: how to replace blend door actuator in a ford

I recently did mine, I hear you can do it without taking the entire dash apart but I had no luck with it myself. I have to get ready for work but, on mine it was located down and to the left of the radio. its a white box...are you hearing a clicking noise or something? I had to roll the entire dash back and it was still a major pain getting it out.

try rechecking the blend door actuator and its connections, fuse, etc. also if your AC system is overcharged it will blow warm air.

2008 ford rangerhave vacuum but no heat

Air Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on where door sticks)

In all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.

Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.

2008 ranger blend door not working

It can be a jamming door has damaged the actuator motor, both problems are common on this truck. You can buy a kit on line that is called a "HEATERTREATER" THAT ALLOWS YOU TO REPLACE THE BLEND DOOR WITHOUT REMOVING THE DASH, EBAY ALSO HAS THE KITS.

My 2001 ford ranger heater blows out cold air, what might be my problem??

If you are sure the engine is getting up to temperature then your problem will be a part called the electrically positioned blend door and or the little motor that moves the blend door. The blend door moves back and forth between the AC core and the heater core to provide a mix of hot and cold air or hot or just cold depending on what you set the air temperature control at, blue being cold and red being hotter. This is all to common a problem on Ford rangers and Explorers which share the same components of the heating and AC systems. When the door fails it is usually on the cold setting position. The kicker here is that you must remove the dash to replace the parts, the blend door and the blend door actuator motor should both be replaced at the same time, the common reason for the motor to fail is a sticking hard to move blend door due to warping of the plastic it is made from.

1997 ford ranger, 3.0. A/C systems work cold on Max A/C, but can't change the temp. All other functions are hot, and I can't change the temp with the thermostat either.

Sounds like the blend door actuator and/or the blend door to the actuator connection is busted.

The actuator costs about $70.00 and blend door replacement about $15.00 from NAPA.
Dealers and shops charge about $1000.00 to $1300.00 to repair the blend door problem, which includes removal of the dash.

Replacement of the actuator alone does not involve removing the dash.

For cheaper alternatives you may want to check these web sites:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214332
http://www.heatertreater.net/?gclid=CM7ymcv1kagCFYRl7AodyDC8DA

If you go with the explorerforum.com method be sure you read all the forum dialog following the instruction, so you have a better concept of what you are doing.

The heatertreater.net solution costs about $130 to $140 including shipping but does not include the actuator.

Also watch the heatertreater videos http://www.heatertreater.net/Exp_Rngr%20Video.html
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BVyZWpS7TM&feature=player_detailpage
for a better understanding of how to repair the problem

I have a 2006 Ford Ranger and the heat is stuck on on. Even when I move the handle to cool it still heats. Do you have any suggestions, thanks Al Shults.

Hello
This problem is caused by one or both of the following parts, one is the air temperature control blend door actuator motor, the next is the actual blend door, the shaft that the electric actuator moves is snapped off due to the door binding, both problems cause no air temperature control and you either get heat or cold with no control to change it. The problem is very common in the Ranger and the Explorer.

The fan works, air conditioning works, but the air wont heat up(knob turns to hot on thermostat). is it a vacuum hose problem, and how do we get to it?

The most common cause of this in the Ranger and the Explorer is that a part called the air temeperature control blend door acuator or the blend door shaft that the electric actuator moves has broken, this door is what shuttles between the heater core and the AC core and provides either heated or cooled air, or a blend of the two hot and cold air streams.
