Question about 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

Our 2yo santa fe crdi fuel economy has progressively worsened from a very good 8litres/100km to 9.5 or 10, without change in driving habit or obvious change in engine function. We have had a flat battery in that time. Our service is done regularily by hyundai and they say they scan the engine electronics[ecu?] each time. Can you help please?

How to increase running time

That is a very vague question... what do you mean? Do you want it to get better fuel mileage? Change driving habits, tune-up engine, properly inflate tires or even go to low friction tires and fluids/oils, remove any unneeded weight, duct-tape any seems on the front of the vehicle, avoid hills and rapid acceleration...

Really, there are many factors that can minutely help fuel mileage and/or range, but the most important factor is the driver. Sensible driving (which most people don't do) is the single greatest factor in fuel mileage. Sadly, SUVs (or any vehicle) is only going to get a certain range of fuel mileage, so don't expect more than 1-2 mpg difference.

Good luck!

What is the fuel economy for a 2001 hyundai santa fe ? is it normal to go throu gh half a tank of petrol in 3 to 4 days ?

Average for a V6 engine 2 wheel drive model is 20mpg. That is 20 miles per gallon US.
If you have an 18 gallon tank, you could expect 180 miles on a half tank of fuel. Again, this is US measurements.

Check air filter. Has your driving habits changed? Or......It's unlikely but people do do it......gas theft. With prices high, people are taking a hose to steal gas from random vechiles. No bull. Try parking your vechile inside locked building, to see if that helps. If so, well, you got your soultion.
