Hi please can you help with my central locking system BMW318i. It used to work fine but recently it fails to open but will close with the key. Using it manually the key will not also open all doors. Only with a lot of turning the key clockwise and anticlockwise.

there is a motor placed inside the doors for the operation of the central lockin system. when you open the door by key this motos is activated and all door locks are released. your problem may because of this motor is failed.
cause of the failure
1.the wire going to the motor may be chopped off.
2.the junction box connecting the wires may be damaged.
3.fuse may be blown out.
4.motor itsef damaged.
so please check weather power is coming to the motor using multi meter. if the power is not coming to it then the problem is with the wires. if the power is coming to it then problem is with the motor.
i suggest you to take to BMW because you need to remove the door pannel its better if they do it.
hi i have had the same problem, the things is your key has lost its coding to your car, is it the diamond shpe key with a open, lock and open boot on it if it is you can get in your car turn the ignition to the point before the engine starts,
take the key back out,
hold the unlock button,
whilst holding the unlock button press the lock button three times,
let go off all buttons then the locks should bounce to say the car key has recoded its self,
try locking and unlocking the car with the key 3 times slowly ,other than that i have no idea ?? another trick is to disconnect battery and join the cables together for a few minutes to discharge any capacitors that may be holding a charge in the computer..Only other thing i can think of is the main dealers who have the right connectors and software to re set it all .sorry i havent been of any help
somewhere around switches, fusses,or relay of el.windows is bad connection on earth (-) pol en they get it from the door switches in which case they work fine just like you say-I JUST HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM AND PROBLEM SEEM TU BE RELAY
looks like you will need a drivers door lock actuator (contains the latch)if the door will not unlock with the remote either.the lock cylinder usually will fail since you had to use it everytime to unlock the door. the lock cylinder is vin specific so expect a delay when its ordered from the dealership.i would probably expect around $800 for the complete repair, kinda pricey but the dealership will go out of its way to retain a customer.
