Question about 2001 Volvo S80

1 Answer

I have a 2001 S80 Volvo. Randomly my car will just "cut out" and I can no longer accelerate. RPM maxs at about 1500 when this happens. I then pull over, turn the car off, wait and minute, start the car again, and it is fine until the next time it occurs. Could be right away, or might not happen for the rest of the day. Anybody have any insight into this problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 1999 T6. It usually happened after a 2 hr run. Usually it would not go higher than 1000rpm until it cleared itself or I switched off and strated again. A dealer put a computer diagnostic on an recommended a mixture sensor to be replaced. Before I got to book that in I tried switching to only 98 Octane Fuel and I haven't had a problem since.

What does error code P0716 mean on a 2001 Volvo S80?

Trouble Code: P0716
Input Speed Sensor Performance
Possible Causes:

P0716 The TCM detects an unrealistic drop in input shaft speed. ISS DTC P0716 is not failed this ignition. Transmission input speed is 1,050 RPM or greater for 2 seconds. Transmission input speed drops 1,000 RPM for greater than 4 seconds and does not recover with in greater than 0.80 seconds.

Go to a Volvo mechanic for specific help, they will probably replace a faulty sensor.

Best of luck.
