Question about Chrysler Town & Country

1 Answer

I have 2001 chrysler town and country with head light problems. With headlights on high beam the right light is on and the left one is off. With lights on low beam the left one is on and the right one is off. Both bulbs have been replaced with the same result.

Hi, on the front of the big fuse box in the engine compartment is the Front Control Module. The headlamp relays are inside this module, and that is likely where your problem is. Unfortunately, this is an expensive part, but maybe you can get a used one at a salvage yard. Or, if you are good with electronics, you might open the module to see if it can be repaired. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

How to adjust headlights

from the front or back of the head light , there will be 2/3 adjusting knobs / screws . Place the vehicle on a level surface about 3 feet from a plain coloured wall. You will see the centre of the beam( High beam). The centre of the beam is to be at the same height as the centre of the head light lense and properly adjusted pointing slightly to the passenger side of the vehicle . This prevents full beam in the eyes of oncoming cars.

The fuses that protect your headlamp circuits are Fuse Numbers [4] (Left High Beam), [5] (Right High Beam) [6] (Left Low Beam) and [7] (Right Low Beam).
Fuse 4 is a 10 Amp fuse
Fuse 5 is a 10 Amp fuse
Fuse 6 is a 20 Amp fuse
Fuse 7 is a 15 Amp fuse
All are located in the Power Distribution Center in the engine compartment.

The difference between a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country with DRL and WITHOUT DRL is that one has a DRL module and the other does not. The headlmps themselves are wired exactly the same.

To make yours work, you would have to add the DRL module and reprogram your Body Control Module (BCM) to accept the DRL module. Doing it any other way would probably result in the BCM setting fault codes and possibly even causing malfunctions in other non-headlamp-related circuits.
