Question about 2001 Toyota Celica

1 Answer

2000 Toyota Celica GTS - I just need to remove the drivers side door panel. I get to a point and it seems attached where the door lock is, but I can't see behind the panel to see what is holding it on. Normally you can lift up on the door handle and lift the panel off, but I'm not having any luck. Can anyone help?

Hi, My door doesn't look like the one in the video. It doesn't have a trim panel around the lock - that panel is intergrated into the leather door handle and nothing will pop off even with a screwdriver. I had a 300ZX before this car and it had a trim piece like the one in the video. I've tried to pry off the leather area and it won't budge. There also isn't a trim panel on the back part of the armrest. That area seems to be free from the actual door.

Thanks so much! The seam was so tight behind the handle that it really wasn't visible. I had everything else done. I really appreciate this. Thanks, Denise

Here is straight from a repair manual on line on how to remove the door panel on the 2000 Toyota Celica GTS.

    1. Open the door completely. Pull the door handle back and use a flat screwdriver to gently pry open the access door behind it. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw under the access door. Use the flat screwdriver to gently pry the black triangle-shaped cover off of the panel near the side view mirror.

    2. Look on the underside of the armrest and find a Phillips-head screw. Remove the screw. There are two more Phillips screws along the bottom edge of the door panel. Along the front of the door panel there are two plastic circles. Pop these off with your fingers or the flat screwdriver. There is one Phillips screw under each circle that must be removed.

    3. Pull the door panel away from the door by prying along its edges to remove the five plastic clips located along the bottom and each side of the panel. These clips make a loud popping sound as they are removed.

    4. Lift up on the panel and unhook it from the top of the door. Reach behind the door and unclip the wiring harness that goes to the armrest for the door locks and window controls. Pull the metal rod for the door handle out of the plastic housing to completely remove the panel.

behind the handle there is a cover in the recess. Use a flat tiped screw driver, with tape on the tip so as not mess up your car plastic, and pry that piece off. That part is only a clip on, one on top and bottom, and one on the end furthest away from the handle.

Thanks you for asking for my assistance.
Let me clarify, the entire handle assembly is moving on the outside of the door when you open it; it is real loose? If so, there are two 10 millimeter bolts that hold the handle in place. Yes, you do have to pull off the door panel to access the handle bolts. I can give you the panel removal proceedure if you need it.

2002 toyota celica power door lock problem

Are you hearing any noises from the pass door when you activate the lock switch? If not, the power door lock solenoid has failed, and prob needs to be replaced. Pull the door panel & check to see if it is getting power to the solenoid in lock & unlock. If it has power, the solenoid is def bad.
