The bolt is removed by going clockwise and tightens counter clockwise, some are the other way, heres a good way to know, if you put a wrench on the bolt and pull to release the tension on the belt, which ever way it goes to release tension then the bolt is removed going the other way, good luck.

How to replace fan belt on a Mitsubishi pajero


Instructions
  1. 1 Open the bonnet of the Pajero, and turn the bolt on the centre of the tension pulley with a socket wrench two full rotations. The tension pulley is the pulley directly behind the fan in the upper portion of the front of the engine.
  2. 2 Loosen the adjuster bolt on the tension pulley bracket. This bolt is on the left-hand side, situated in a long horizontal groove.
  3. 3 Slip the fan belt off of the engine. Draw a diagram of the path of the fan belt if the factory printed sticker diagram is no longer in the front of your engine on your Pajero.
  4. 4 Insert the new fan belt, winding it through the various pulleys according to your diagram. Put it on the tensioner pulley last.
  5. 5 Place the tension belt tool on the tension pulley bolt and pull until the slack in the belt is gone. When there is no slack, keep the pressure on the pulley, and tighten the adjuster bolt with the wrench. Tighten the lock bolt on the pulley.

2003 dodge intrepid sxt 3.5 over heated replaced the thermostat and still over heats might be water pump where is it located and what is in volved in fixing this


The water pump is located in the front of the engine & is driven by the timing belt. So if you go in there you might as well replace the belt and tensioners if needed.
Drain the cooling system (turn the radiator drain 1 full turn only)
  1. Remove the upper radiator hose
  2. Remove the top radiator support
  3. Remove the two 10mm head bolts from either side of the radiator and gently pull the top of the radiator forward to gain a little more room
  4. Remove the four 10mm head bolts holding the cooling fan module to the radiator . Remove the four clip nuts and the cooling fan electrical connector and lift the fan module out of the vehicle
  5. Loosen and remove the drive belts and remove the three 13mm head bolts holding the alternator belt tensioner pulley to the timing cover
  6. Remove the three piece timing belt cover (the lowest piece can be accessed through the crankshaft pulley by turning the pulley and removing the bolts)
  7. turn the crankshaft pulley and line up the timing marks on top dead center
  8. Remove the timing belt tensioner two 13mm bolts and remove the tensioner (If the tensioner pulley wheel is made of plastic you will want to purchase a revised steel tensioner pulley) . Put the tensioner in a suitable vise to compress it and install a small allen wrench from the front to hold it in place (close the vise slowly to compress the tensioner)
  9. (If need be) Remove the plastic tensioner pulley (the 15mm head attaching bolt can be removed without removing the crankshaft pulley)
  10. The timing belt can easily be slipped under/around the crankshaft pulley by slightly bending it to the outside of the timing belt housing on the drivers side and working it with your hand through the crankshaft pulley . No excessive force is needed to do this and be sure to clean the area well prior to installing the new belt
  11. With the belt removed , remove and replace the water pump . Coat the gasket with a little RTV silicone and clean the gasket mating surface well
  12. Install the timing belt in the opposite direction as removed . Make sure that all the timing marks are lined up .
  13. Reinstall the timing belt tensioner

    Note: There are several different length bolts used, so pay attention to where they are removed from, they must be installed in the same placement.

There are 3 belts on the truck. The belt that goes around the alternator is not spinning. What could cause this belt not to turn?


Assuming that the belt is not broken ... you need to tighten the belt. This one is not as easy as the other two which have tensioners. This belt is tensioned by the alternator itself. I've found adjusting it to not be a lot of fun ... the tricky part is loosening the bolt that the alternator pivots on. There isn't a lot of room and I find one of the small palm ratchets to be helpful. So to tighten, you'd loosen the upper bolt that actually holds the tension on the belt, loosen the bolt that the alternator pivots on, re-tension the belt (using something to pry on the alternator if necessary) and tighten the two bolts again. If you have to replace the belt you'll need to remove the outer two to get to this one. The outer two tensioners are adjusted by loosening the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley in place and then turning the tensioner bolt itself to tighten or loosen the belt(s)... then retighten the bolt holding the pulley.

4cyl 2000 honda accord engine stalls while idling, recently died and will only start for short periods... possible problems/solutions?


check for spark and fuel after it dies.

If there is spark but no fuel, then the fuel pump may be bad or a clogged fuel filter.

If there is fuel but not spark, then the ignition control module or the ignition coil could be bad.

Also, check that the timing belt is timing the engine correctly.

To Remove:



  1. Record anti-theft code for radio.
  2. Disconnect battery negative cable then positive cable.

  4. Raise and safely support vehicle.
  5. Remove front tire assembly.
  6. Remove splash shield.
  7. Remove power steering belt.
  8. Remove alternator and alternator bracket.
  9. Safely support engine under oil pan.

  10. Remove stop, detach ground cable and remove upper bracket.
  11. Remove cylinder head cover.
  12. Remove upper cover.
  13. Remove dipstick and tube assembly.
  14. Remove crankshaft pulley.
  15. Remove adjusting nut rubber seal and remove lower cover.

  16. Loosen adjusting nut 1 turn.
  17. Push up on balancer belt tensioner to relieve belt tension.
  18. Push down on timing belt tensioner to relieve belt tension.

To Install:


NOTE: Clean balancer belt drive pulley, timing belt pulleys and
upper/lower timing cover prior to belt installation.

  5. Install balancer belt drive pulley.

  6. Install lower cover.
  7. Install crankshaft pulley and bolt.
  8. Rotate crankshaft pulley counterclockwise several times to seat belt.
  9. Loosen adjusting nut 1 turn.
  10. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 3 teeth on camshaft pulley.
  11. Tighten adjusting nut to 33 ft lb (44 Nm).

  13. Ensure that camshaft pulley "UP" mark is at top and grooves align with top
    of cylinder head.
  14. Remove crankshaft pulley and lower cover.
  15. Rotate crankshaft to TDC again and lock timing belt adjuster arm with a 6 mm
    timing cover bolt.
  16. Loosen adjuster nut 1 turn and ensure that belt tensioner freely moves.
  17. Push tensioner up and tighten adjusting nut.

  18. Remove bolt and washer from maintenance hole.
  19. Using a 6 X 100 mm bolt, scribe a mark 2.9 in (74 mm) from end.
  20. Insert bolt into maintenance hole and hole in balancer shaft.
  21. Install bolt up to scribed line.

  22. Align groove on balancer shaft with pointer on oil pump housing.
  23. Install balancer belt and loosen adjusting nut 1 turn to tension.
  24. Retighten bolt.

    22 ft lb (29 Nm).
  26. Reinstall crankshaft pulley.
  27. Loosen adjusting nut 1 turn.

  29. Remove bolt from timing belt adjuster arm.
    NOTE: Inspect rubber seal on lower cover and replace as necessary.

  30. Remove crankshaft pulley.
  31. Install lower cover.
  32. Install seal at adjusting nut.
    NOTE: Crankshaft pulley, bolt and washer must be cleaned prior to
    installation.

  33. Lubricate crankshaft pulley bolt between head and washer and bolt threads
    with clean engine oil.

    Do not use impact wrench to perform

  34. Install crankshaft pulley and tighten bolt using special tools to 181 ft
    lb (245 Nm)
    .
  35. Install dipstick/tube assembly.
  36. Install upper cover. Tighten bolts to 9 ft lb (12 Nm).
  37. Install cylinder head cover.
  38. Install alternator bracket and alternator.
  39. Install power steering pump belt and alternator belt.

  7. Remove fan shroud and fan as an assembly.
  8. Loosen alternator mounting bolts and remove drive belt from pulley.
  9. Remove fan pulley.
  10. Remove 4 cooling fan assembly bolts.
  11. Remove cooling fan assembly.
  12. Remove 4 bolts and upper timing belt cover.
  13. Remove 2 lower bolts and lower timing belt cover.
  14. Loosen adjusting bolt and remove A/C belt.

  1. Install timing belt with minimal slack from timing belt pulley to water pump and from water pump to camshaft pulley.
  2. Loosen tensioner lock bolt until tension is applied to timing belt. CAUTION
    Do not turn crankshaft counterclockwise.
  3. Turn crankshaft pulley 2 full turns clockwise and ensure timing marks are properly aligned.
  4. Tighten tensioner lock bolt to 33 ft lb (45 Nm).
  5. Apply a force of 21 lb to timing belt midway between idler pulley and camshaft pulley.
    • Deflection should measure 0.43-0.51 inch (11-13 mm)
    NOTE: if timing belt deflection is incorrect remove timing belt and install NEW tensioner spring.
  6. Install timing belt guide.
  7. Install crankshaft damper pulley.
  8. Install 5 crankshaft damper pulley bolts. Tighten bolts to 132 in lb (15 Nm).
  9. Install power steering pump drive belt.
  10. Adjust power steering pump drive belt tension and tighten lock bolt and mounting bolt.
  11. Install alternator drive belt.
  12. Install A/C drive belt.
  13. Install lower timing belt cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to 84 in lb (10 Nm).
  14. Install upper timing belt cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to 84 in lb (10 Nm).
  15. Install cooling fan assembly and 4 bolts. Tighten bolts to 27 ft lb (37 Nm).
  16. Install fan pulley.
  17. Install fan clutch and shroud as an assembly. Tighten bolts to 74 in lb (8 Nm).
  18. Tighten 4 cooling fan nuts to 16 ft lb (22 Nm).
  19. Adjust alternator belt tension and tighten alternator mounting bolts.
  20. Install upper radiator hose.
  21. Install fresh air duct.
  22. Connect battery negative cable.
  23. Refill/bleed cooling system.
DOHC To Remove:
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Remove fresh air duct.
  3. Remove 5 cooling fan shroud bolts and 4 thermo-modulated fan nuts.

  5. Remove generator drive belt.
  6. Remove fan pulley (located above crankshaft pulley).

Hi, Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley (tensioner) bolts, then idler pulley (tensioner). Remove upper radiator hose bracket bolt. Loosen two upper radiator hose clamps, then remove upper hose and bracket. Remove coolant bypass hose between thermostat housing and intake manifold coolant outlet. Disconnect main wiring harness from upper front cover (timing belt) cover, then remove eight upper timing belt cover bolts, then the upper cover, Fig. 20. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right front wheel and tire assembly and splash shield. Use strap wrench tool No. D85L-6000-A, or equivalent, to hold water pump pulley while removing water pump pulley bolts. Remove water pump pulley from water pump. Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove five lower timing belt cover attaching bolts and the cover. Rotate crankshaft in a clockwise direction to align crankshaft and camshaft sprocket timing marks, Fig. 21. If timing belt is to be reused, mark direction of rotation. Loosen timing belt tensioner nut, then remove timing belt. CAUTION: With timing belt removed, avoid turning camshaft or crankshaft. If movement is required, exercise extreme caution to avoid valve damage caused by piston contact.

Disconnect battery earth lead. Do not turn crankshaft or camshaft when timing belt removed. Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine. Turn engine in normal direction of ratation unless otherwise stated, Support engine. Remove, engine mounting, auxilliaty drive belts. Water pump pulley 1. Crankshaft pulley bolts 21. crankshaft pully 2. timing belt covers 3. Turn crankshaft to TDC on No 1 cyclinder. Ensure crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocket, oil pump sprocket and balancer shaft sprocket timing marks aligned. Timing marks on camshaft sprockets should align with cylinder head upper face. Dowel pins on camshaft sprockets should face upwards. Slacken tensioner bolt. Move tensioner away from belt and lightly tighten bolt. Remove, automatic tensioner unit bolts. Automatic tensioner unit. Timing belt, crankshaft centre bolt, crankshaft sprocket. Crankshaft sprocket guide washer. Slacken blancer shaft belt tensioner bolt. Move tensioner away from belt and lightly tighten bolt. Remove balancer shaft belt.

Installation
Ensuring timing marks arligned. Note timing marks on camshaft sprockets should align with cylinder head upper face. Exhaust sprocket mark is on recess, but inlet sprocket mark is on tooth. Note: to check oil pump sprocket positioned correctly, removing blanking plug from cylinder block. Insert 8mm diameter Phillips srcrewdriver in hole. Ensure screwdriver is inserted 60mm from face of cylinder block. if screwdriver can only be inserted 20mm: turn oil pump sprocket 360°. Insert screwdriver again. Fit balancer shaft belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Slacken balancer shaft belt tensioner bolt. Turn tensioner clockwise to tension belt. Tighten bolt to 15-22Nm. Apply thumb pressure to belt. Belt should deflect 5-7 mm. If not repeat tensioning procedure. Install crankshaft sprocket guide washer, crnakshaft sprocket. Tighten crankshaft cente bolt. Tighten torque:110-130 Nm. Note ensure crankshaft sprocket guide washer is fitted correclty. Oil treads and contact face of crankshaft body before fitting. Check tensioner body for leakage or damage replace if necessary. Check pushrod protrusion is 12mm. If not replace automatic tensioner unit. Slowly compress pushrod into tensioner body until holes aligned. Resistance should be felt. Place flat washer under tnesioner body to avoid damage to body end plugs. Retain pushrod with suitable pin through hole in tensioner body. install automatic tensioner unit to cylinder block. Tighten bolts to 22-27Nm. Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at the tensioner pulley. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt. Turn tensioner pully clockwise to temporarily tension belt. Tighten bolts to 43-45Nm. Turn crankshaft slowly 1/4 turn anti-cockwise. Turn crankshaft clockwise until timing marks alligned. Slacken tensioner pully bolt. Fit tool to tensioner pulley. Tool No 09244 28100. Apply clockwise torque of 2,6-2,8 Nm to tensioner pulley. Tighten bolt to 43-45Nm. Insert special tool in timing belt rear casing. Tool no 09244-28000. Screw in tool until pin can be removed from automatic tensioner unit. Remove special tool. Tool nr 09244-28000. turn crankshaft two turns clockwise. Wait 15 minutes. Ensure timing marks aligned. I can't find the Auto-tensioner on my 99 accord. Does it have one? If not, how do i get the belts off?


I think this is right, but…
Find someone to help you if you can. To help hold the new belt in place when you are putting it on.
Make a diagram of the way the belt fits over and around the pulleys on your car. Don’t thing that you are going to remember where it goes.
Locate the drive belt auto-tensioner on the upper part of the engine (see pic). The tensioner is an idler pulley, since it does not drive any accessory on your vehicle. Its only function is to give the belt its proper tension.
Insert a long boxed-end wrench on the auto-tensioner pulley bolt of the appropriate size (probably 14mm) and slowly turn the idler pulley to release the tension on the drive belt (you are not removing the bolt; you are turning the tensioner so you can get the belt off while you have it turned under pressure). If you have a 2.4L engine model (2.3 Vtec should be similar), turn the pulley clockwise; if you have a 3.0L engine model, turn the pulley counterclockwise. Slide the belt off any pulley located on the upper part of the engine while you have the tensioner under pressure; then slowly release the tensioner pulley and remove the belt from the engine.
Check every pulley run by the drive belt and make sure they are free of dirt, debris and built-up material.
Compare the old belt to the new one and make sure it is of the same width and configuration.
Install the new belt beginning with the crankshaft pulley at the bottom and center of the engine and work your way up to the last pulley; follow your notes or the routing diagram on the engine compartment. If necessary, ask your helper to hold the belt stretched next to the last pulley on the upper part of the engine. Using the boxed-end wrench, slowly rotate the auto-tensioner pulley in the same direction you turned it to release the belt. Then slide the belt over the last pulley, and slowly release the auto-tensioner.
Make sure the belt is properly seated between the flanges of every accessory pulley.
