I have an aemi automatic ford fiesta, recently is has stalled several times when I have started the car in the morning, also it seems to have difficulty changing from 1st to 2nd gear in automatic what is wrong and is it likely to be an expensive job to fix? PS Had to pick focus as there is no fiesta on your list

HI,

It seems that the automatic choke may have given up which will cause it to stall when cold, could also cause the problems with the gear change as it won't produce enough pressure for the auto system, unless this happens when it's not cold as well.

Cheers.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. I am going to be brief. Car is a 2001 it is now 2010 and I would bet the timing belt has not been changed at the recommened 50,000 mile interval. The symptom you described above is spot on for a the inprocess and final failure of an old timing belt

I.e this is it... :"went sluggish then stalled now it won't start when you turn the key it just sounds like something is spinning other than that there is nothing there."

The timing belt broke.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Hi Stu!
The problems lies with clutch operation, Not having much to do with Fiesta's but sorting similar problems classic Ford vehicles.
I take it the clutch is operated Via a cable? on recent Fords they use a plastic Ratchet and Pawl system which automatically adjusts when cable stretches.
This may have reached its maximum so a replacement is required, also would be adviseable to change the cable too.
Have you a decent spares stockist's local? Halfords can help but you'll need to take out a Mortgage for their parts.
So Shopping list, 1. Auto adjuster (Ratchet/Pawl) 2. Clutch Cable, 3 Lube for cable and shaft on pedal assembly and 4 Haynes Manual.
Good Luck Stu!
You can do this I know you can.
