Sounds like a bad ignition switch. thats letting power through with it off. beleive it or not, most power goes through ignition switch on todays vehicles. try this out! put key to position 2,the oil light, brake light, and other warning lights will not function. turn key to start position, as soon as it trys to start let go of key. allow it to snap back to run position. and note warning lights, if warning lights go out when switch is snapped back! switch is faulty.

I had a radio installed in my 2004 chevy impala and now the battery is always running down and the systems are not working right. what can I do to fix this

You apparently did not hook the radio up to a hot wire when switch is on 'only'. The radio is constantly pulling power from battery even when parked and off with key out. Turn switch on, find a hot wire, turn key off. If power goes off, use that wire for the radio. That's it. Done. Stop replacing batteries now. As for the heater and defrost, you've given no symptoms other than the Battery drain.

Put key in accesary position and disconnect battery - pull steering wheel plastics off - looking at Ignition cylinder you will find a round pin - push round pin with nail while pulling at key cylinder - Replace cylinder and Key it comes as an assembly from your local Auto Parts Store. 2001 ford focus starter interlock

You might have a bad cable that runs from the shifter to the ignition lock. This is how the gear shift is locked when the key is turned off. When the cable starts to go bad this is what happens. Try disconnecting the cable and then try to crank the car. Good luck.

Cannot switch from defrost to A/C, does not blow cool air period and the A/C was charged. but not really sure if the A/C unit in the car is the right one or not.

I just fixed this same problem on my son's 96 Stratus this evening. The first thing you want to try is to pull the IOD fuse in the fuse box. The IOD fuse is the one in the #5 slot, that controls the interior lights and radio memory.
With the car off and the key out of the ignition, pull the IOD fuse. wait about a minute, then replace the fuse. Turn the ignition to the "On" position (but not all the way to start).
This clears the BCM faults, and causes the HVAC system to re-calibrate. You should hear a series of whirring sounds (other that the whirring of the fuel pump). Once these sounds stop, you should be able to switch from defrost to the other settings.
Hope this was helpful :-)

Can not shift into park key will come out of switch

When ur keycan be pulled out even when ur running the engine or in the"ON" position. U have to replace ur old key or try to use ur spare key and see if it will come out of the ignition switch!

If it can't be pull out, the problem would be the ignition switch have to be replace, 'cause of eroded copper/brass pins inside the switch!
The problem of ignition switch key pull out would be the weight of other things attached to ur key chain! The vibration when ur running and many times u inserted the key, have lost the LUBRiCANT inside.Minimise the WEIGHT of ur key chain so that in the future the ignition key will not have any problem!
Hope that helps u out!
