Do you hsve to remove harmonic balancer from a 1989 Ford F-350 7.5 L. Engine. To replace timing cover? 1 mechanic says yes, 1 mechanic says no. No books available for days. Thank you

Hello,

The answer is yes. The damper has to come off. The second mechanic has to go back to school! You should also change the belt, the oil, the antifreeze.

Why does my truck speed while driving

You don't mention it but I think you should have a carburetor on that motor. Do a fuel flow check to make sure you are getting enough fuel at higher rpms. check the float bowl for the carburetor to make sure it is not partially blocked. But I will say it sounds like you could have low compression. I would have the compression check and also do a leak down check on each cylinder. Also have your antifreeze checked for hydrocarbon in case you have a leaking head gasket. Also make sure the oil is uncontaminated as well. If all

4g15 engine carburetor smoking only when engine is cold

smoking from where?, front of car, middle or tail pipe.

is this your first car, or first car and first winter (white steam?)
there are 3 kinds of smoke
black , carb flooding (ask why)
white, oil, burning, take for ever to go away
white steam, goes away fast and smells like Antifreeze, sweet and nasty.

and all carbs smoke black in the tail pipe end, when cold, unless
you very carefully tune the choke plate.
so do tell? what?

Carburetor backfire and antifreeze leaking under the car

first up check that you have put the spark plug leads on the correct plugs in the firing order as back firing comes from having 2 leads crossed. Have a pressure test done on the coolant system to find the leak . If it just started after the back firing I suspect that the inlet manifold may be corroded at the water cross over section and the back firing may have loosened the gasket enough for the leak to mstart

The engine is revving up on it's own

Try cleaning the throttle body with some carburetor spray. You may need to hold the throttle down all the way to clear flood it to get it to start again. check for vacuum leaks. check your antifreeze and make sure it is full too since low coolant can cause the temperature sensor for the computer to get inaccurate readings.

Engine periodically "races" mostly while idling or neutral

the idle surges if this is the case take out the air intake tube that leads to the throttle body, get a can of carburetor fluid and spray around the throttle body. You will need someone to start the car and hold the gas peddle to 2500 rpm while you do this the car will shut of when you do this, restart the car and repeat the process until half of the can is used up. Now check your antifreeze level fill if needed.

84 s15 2.8l misfire, popping carb, and gas and coolant in oil

Wow, sounds like head gasket &/or timing problem. First thing you need to do is a pressure test on cooling system to see if head gasket gone, then I'd do a compression test as well. Have you pulled any spark plugs to see what they look like?
