The old spark plugs are set at .080 an the new spark plugs are set at .030 what is the regular setting for the spark plug for a 2000 ford explorer with a v6 4.0.motor

Went to change spark plugs and when i put the new ones in the car run's rough. put the old one's back in runs fine. did this twice .

Did you check specs to set the gap on the plugs to the proper setting for you vehicle They do not come set for all vehicles Some are at .030 and can be as high as .060

Did you gap the plugs to correct setting? You may want to check the fuel filter and maybe the pump-maybe low fuel pressure.

What is the best way to change the spark plugs?

The coils will need to be removed first, then take compressed air and blow out the spark plug tubes, then you can replace the spark plugs. Use only Motorcraft Platinum Spark Plugs. Unless you know what you are doing, I would recommend a repair shop.

try a new set of spark plugs if that does not work it might be ignition related, a plug wire or something like that.
