Question about Honda Accord

1 Answer

I have a 2000 year model accord 2.3 vti-l. The car has been running fine since i parked it last week. This week when i start the engine i noticed that the idle became unstable or erratic it would idle from 1200 then dropped to 800 then back to 1200 then dropped again. Today i tried to clean the throttle valve and check the connections, when i reinstalled and start the engine the idle reached 2600 and stayed there...

Thank you for the answer, thou i have one clarificatory concern, what is it or how does TPS affects idle when as i understand TPS only senses the throttle valve openning to give optimum ignition timing under varying throttle inputs? Thanks again...

it can still affect idle speeds. it could also be a cold air intaks sensor. admittedly, it could be the mass airflow sensor, as well. best way to check is to disconnect the sensors in question, snd see if the idle smooths out.

i forgot to add: to test the TPS, you can also tap on it with a screwdriver when it is idling/revving, to see if the tapping changes the idle speed. there are several possibilities, but a malfunctioning sensor is most likely.

It really sounds like one of the cv joints has failed. Even though boots are intact joint could be broke inside-just double check.

I have one of those BMWs and they are the most unreliable cars. Too many non-functional badly designed sensors and buggy engine management software that can function without problems for a few month. Mine is 6 years old and the dealer for the last two years could not figure out why I am getting misfire, one time on cylinder 3, another on cylinder 4. They just keep swapping coils, injectors, they even reloaded the engine management software, according to them. I still get it. The dealer just kept in fact just erasing the error but could not really fix the problem. The car also leaked coolant and oil just after the extended warranty expired. If you have one of these cars without warranty, expect to spend $2000 to $3000 every year just to keep it running. My 4Runner did not cost me a penny for 8 continuous years, just basic maintenance but no repairs.
Google BMW misfire or E46 misfire and see for yourself. Man, you will get zillions of results descrbing the problem with no answer. It is all gussing but no real answer to the problem.
