I have a 95 gmc sonoma that will not go into gear and when you rev the engine the rpm moves but the truck doesnt and it smells like burning metal it still shows its in gear but its not catching

Sounds like you got burnt clutch's, I take it you have checked the fluid level in the transmission? My opinion is if this happened suddenly then it maybe either a vacuum leak. The smell throws me off though, so I would servous it with a change of filter if that fails go for a change over unit.

95 GMC K2500 4x4, 4L80E transmission problem

VSS is still good if you have your cruise control and speedometer working, it's common for the wire harness to the solenoid on the passenger side to get corroded and or the sires to break due to the heat given off from the catalytic converter beside the transmission. Check the condition of the wire harness and clean the contacts with brake cleaner and reinstall with some grease to keep the corrosion away, hint use marine grease. Marine grease cost a few cents more but resist water longer and better then normal lutetium grease, I use it on everything and get longer life out of my u-joints and front end suspension. Most transmission shop will test drive free of charge and scan the truck for DTC codes that sometimes will not show up in the check engine light, but mostly you do have an electrical problem so check all your fuses and wire harness from the ECM to the transmission. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100% again soon without some transmission shop getting you to replace the whole transmission for $2,300. If you are going to have the transmission service, "fluid and filter changed" Have them replace your boost valve. The boost valve is around $45.00, the boost valve controls the amount of transmission fluid pressure and low transmission fluid pressure will cause the transmission to fail. I replace mine every second transmission service and i have over 365,000 miles on mine. Keep up the good work friend.

95 Jimmy, Transmission will not shift. Will only drive in 1st. Sometimes if I put into 4 wheel drive it will be fine for a mile or so, then drops back to 1st gear?

could be a speed sensor or a transmission ECM issue, try changing the fluid first then bring it to the dealer they have special transmission ecm code readers that can give a diagnostic reading that will give you an idea of what is going on also before this get under the truck and inspect all plugs and wire to transmission.

I have a 1998 gmc with a muncie 5 speed transmisson. i need a book or diagram to show how to rebuild it.

Check out www. faxonautoliterature. com. They have factory service manuals for almost anything but they also list a transmission overhaul book for GM manual transmissions. It's easy to use and there is a phone number if you have questions. I've used it numerous times and had quick prompt service and good prices. Hope this helps.

Will a 1994 chevy 4l80e 4wd swap into a 1995 GMC

Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts. Good luck and hope this information helps.

4L60E INTERCHANGES

I know the answer to your question. Change the wiring harness and pwm solenoid. Only the right solenoids will fit in the 95 harness if you get aftermarket harness you must use the plug that is the same as the 3-2 downshift solenoid. www.TransmissionGarage.com
