Cool air ooze out of front vents, but the blower does not blow on any speed.

  • amorga03 Sep 08, 2008

AC/Heat coming out of front vents even when it turned all they way up, however it does work in the back seat area. What do you think is causing this a fuse that needs replacing or is it bigger than that? HELP

This is usually caused by a failing fan motor resistor pack. The resistors allow changes the speed of the fan. If one or more fail, certain speed(s) become unavailable.

Auto Zone sell the blower motor resistor pack for the manually controlled fan speed for $28 (they may also have the automatic or climate control types, too). I did this job myself in my '04 Envoy in less than 30 minutes with a flashlight and a few simple hand tools. You might have to get into a slightly awkward position to see & remove / reinstall the screws that hold the resistor pack in place under the dashboard however.

1) Remove the two screws from the plastic cover under the glove box & disconnect / remove electrical connectors secured to the cover. Set the cover aside.

2) Empty the glove box of the contents.

3) With the glove box open, push the clip on rear of the left side of the glove box towards the firewall to allow it to fall forward.

4) Remove the electrical connector from the blower motor located to the right of the glove box opening.

5) Pull the connector and cable downward tot he floor. There is a thick rubber band that may be holding the cable - pull it away to slide the cable out easily.

6) Close the glove box.

7) Look upward - close to the firewall to follow the cable removed in a previous step (a flashlight can help out here). It enters a plastic part held in place with two screws. There is also a narrow electrical connector on this plastic part.

8) Disconnect the narrow electric connector by pulling it straight downward.

9) Remove the two screws that hold the plastic part in place.

10) Allow the part to fall / gently pry away from surface.

11) Reinstall in reverse order.

Check with the store first to make sure this part is compatible with your model year vehicle - the part is Duralast #DR755 shown below:

I hope this helps!

Thank you! Took about an hour in an uncomfortable position, but the heat is working on all settings now!

My A/C on my 2003 Envoy worked fine yesterday. Today I get nothing. I tried the fan buttons on the dash and nothing came from the vents when I used the A/C or the heat and yet it appeared to be on. No wind... I checked both fuse boxes...??

I replaced the fan clutch and it was fine for like 3 munths now the light is on again im thinking its the ecu its a 03 gmc evoy inline 6. thanks the code is p1481 thanks

There a lot of aftermarket fan clutches out there that just don't hold up. Purchase either a GM part or a Dorman replacement.

1 have 03 envoy,6cyl,have replaced viscouis fan,fan still runs a lot, dealer has checked twice all ok

Do you have the check engine light on? If a fault code of P1481 or P1484 is coming up with a scanner, the fan clutch is bad.

The fan that blows both AC and heat has quit working on my 2002 Envoy. At first, it took several minutes to begin blowing after being turned on, now nothing. Any ideas?

2002 GMC Envoy-air conditioner/heat

If only some of the fan speeds work this is always the blower motor resistor located in the hvac case inside the right front of the vehicle where your passenger feet would be.the blower motor resistor is available at most larger parts places.I replace 2 or 3 of these a week. Good luck

Blower doesn't work at high speed

you will need to replace the fans blower resistor. its mounted in the cab. in the lower right side of the heater box. some aftermarket suppliers are carrying the part but all chevy or gmc dealers will have it.
good luck chris
