Question about 2002 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Just replaced the starter for my 2002 toyota camry. It is a 4 cil. I knew i needed to replace the starter because i was told by a mechanic a month ago when my car wouldn't start that if i just tapped on the starter it would kick on. it worled for a month then it stopped last night. so today i replaced the starter, nothing tricky pretty easy. car started smoothly but now when in idle the car shakes roughly then dies. any clues to what the heck may have happened?

I would check the idle air control valve. Read about it in the link below. Your mechanic doesn't seem to know what he's doing.

Starter replacement

my solution is for all cars and not specifically for a camry.

remove the positive wire of the battery.
remove all the wires attached to the starter.
take note on where you took them off.
remove all the bolts holding the starter.
remove the starter.

do the reverse on installation.
last thing to do is put back the positive wire of the battery.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Toyota camry 2002 a/c unit

There is a relay under the hood that will cause this problem. My dealer told me I needed a new compressor, all I replaced was the relay(2 years ago) About $40.It is not labled as A.C. relay on fuse box.Buy the relay from your dealer and get a mechanic to replace it.
