Question about 1995 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

The heater radiator leaked and radiator coolant got into the computers. Rev counter didn't work, speedo worked like a rev counter, auto changed gears at will from top to first at speed etc. I have removed both ECUs and cleaned them and removed all moisture, refitted and now everything works fine except for the gear change. It's no longer doind what it wants. but it doesn't change u until engine revs around 5k. Once it is in top gear, I think it stays there when you so=top and take off again as well. Anything else I can do? Which ECU affects the auto? It is a 1995 Galant Sports GT 2l twin turbo.

You need a repair manual like haynes etc--the auto ECU can probly be reprogrammed thru a landline only for best results--the modules and relays in the trans may have issues or you mite need service it-change oil ,do a pressure chec ,make adjusts etc

My speedo, Rev counter, fuel guage, and heater guage are not working and the lights showing the auto gears have gone off. Is this all on a fuse

There should be a fuse under the dash for the instrument cluster...you may need to refer to the owner manual to get the printout of the fuse block

I have a 1996 Toyota Ipsum, the speedometer and rev counter sometimes run wild and it disenganges gears. What can I do to fix the problem of the speed sensor?

Sounds very much like a problem I have experienced on and off for a couple of years. If your rev and speedo gauges drop dead, your o/d light flashes and your auto gearbox doesn't like to change through the gears, then the odometer pcb has a failed chip. You can pull it apart and try to resolder the loose chip back on. But be warned this is very delicate job (more suited for repair shop) you could end up flooding other chips with solder (as i did). It can be changed out with one from the wreckers but will have to be re-set to your ks/milage. One solution at this stage, if re-soldering is your option, you can also swap your eeprom chip from your old odometer pcb to your new/used pcb from the wreckers. This eeprom carries all the historical ks/milage used. See some info on tachosoft.com (eeprom info) and info from toyota forums on speedo/rev gauges (pcb failure) In a nut shell, this pcb odometer problem kills the feed back signal back to the o/d and gearbox speed sensors etc and so the gearbox doesn't know when to change through the gears.

Engine warning light , battery light, warning light , rev counter , speedo and temp gauge going on/off intermitantly and speedo not working on digital screen on ford focus can you help. the battery is new...

My 04 Ford Focus the battery light keeps coming on & going off, have fitted a new alternator belt but it didn't solve the problem. The battery connections are good. Also the rev counter, speedo & mileage clock keep going haywire when the battery light is on. Do you think it is the alternator? Or is it some other common problem?

pull the instrument cluster out and check the printed circuit and connector to it from harness, plug it in and out three or four times, this may cure the problem.

Only hot air blowing out of vents

i am a nissan master technition in Wichita Ks. we see this problem frequently. there is an air pocket in your heater core, due to low coolant level. for some resion or another your vehical is consuming coolant (usually head gkt leaking into cyl). and sence the heater core is higher than the radiator, the air pocket gets stuck in the heater core.
wait till the vehical is cooled off, remove radiator cap, install coolant funnel (avalible at any auto parts store). lift front of vehical off the ground (to get the radiator higher than the heater core), fill coolant funnel and start engine. allow vehical to reach opperating tempature and the air pocket will work its way loose. you may need to rev engine to change coolant flow rate in atempts to remove air pocket quicker.

sorry about the spelling
