As for the noise if it is a high pitched whine that you can hear while the engine is running its probably normal...most of them sound like this. it should be the same sound that comes on briefly as you turn the ignition on before the engine starts. if it is extremely loud, it may be a build up of debris in the filter causing too much back pressure on the pump or the pump may be on its way out. as for the blue smoke.... blue smoke is oil burning in the engine. you didnt say how many miles are on the vehicle but as a vehicle ages it will usually consume some oil as the engine is running. if the smoke only comes out on start up its probably due to the valve seals weeping a tiny bit of oil thru them and its burned up once the engine is running. its not too much to be overly concerned with at the moment, just check your oil level in the engine a little more frequently as now you know that you are consuming some oil at times. also switching to a "high milage" oil may help as they have conditioners in the oil that slightly swell rubber seals in the engine.

Why doesn't it start?

You may have plugged the filter. The fuel pump may have gone bad from the empty tank. You my have not ran out of gas, but assumed you did because the fuel pump quit. You may want to have the pressure tested.

2009 Cadillac Escalade ESV Issues ?!!!

Drop the gas tank and check for contamination/corrosion. You're going to have to do that to replace the fuel level sender anyway and check both the fuel pump (it's in the tank) and the primary filter on the pickup tube.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2008 escalade?

Hello
In 2004 up models the external fuel filter was deleted, the only filter is attached to the inlet of the fuel pump inside the gas tank, so it only gets replaced when the pump is replaced. This is an industry wide trend and not just limited to your year and model.

Starting problems

Dirty fuel filter or faulty fuel pressure check valve which is located on your fuel pump sending unit. Try this test, turn the ignition on for 10 seconds (engine not running) then turn it off for 5 seconds and turn it on again then try to start the engine after 10 seconds. This will re-pressurize the fuel lines to start the engine, the fuel injectors need 62-65PSI to have them start the engine. Anything less then that and you'll have starting problem.
If it start's right up, then your ether have a fuel pressure check valve gone bad or a fuel leak at your fuel pressure regulator which is also common, but if your engine is still running 100% then i'll lean towards check valve or dirty fuel filter.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, a dirty fuel filter will cause fuel restriction that may just be enough to the fuel pressure below 62PSI upon cold starts and a dirty fuel filter will cause the fuel pump to fail early in it's life.
Thank you for using Fixya and goos luck.

Cadalac escalade, when key turned on,engine not

It could be the fuel pump pressurizing the system. Does the sound stop after a few seconds? If it is the fuel pump then it is a normal sound. Fuel pumps will resonate in the tank when you are low on gas, making them sound louder. If it is more than a hum then I would get it checked out.
