Transmission woes. I have a 98 Chrysler Concorde with 160,000 miles. When I drive the transmission will not shift beyond 2nd gear. Is this a minor problem or do I need to replace the transmission. Please help!!!!!

Thanks.....Can you tell me how safe of a distance it is to drive the car? I think the nearest transmission shop is 45 minutes from my house.

    THANK YOU....

I did as you suggested. It took me an hour to find someone who would check the computer to find the fault codes for my transmission. No one wants to work on a Chrysler!!!. All of the transmission shops told me that the tranny needed to rebuilt without even looking at it. I have an appointment with the Chrysler dealership on Wed. Thanks again for your help.

What's happening is the trans. computer is detecting something wrong. It puts itself into "limp in" mode. Most of the time a sensor is acting up. Go and have you computer (trans.) scanned so you know which sensor is going bad. This is a very common occurrance with all chrysler products. Don't go to Autozone for the scan. Your best bet is to go to a transmission shop.

You can drive the car but really can't go over 40 - 45 mph because of the fact that it's in limp-in mode. A good auto repair facility can help you with this too as long as they have the capability of scanning your trans. computer.I perform this at my shop and I'm a general auto repair facility. I scan systems for free, do some shopping around on prices on system scanning. Shop prices may vary from place to place.

That's pretty bad. I found the Chrysler products very simple to deal with. Sounds like they're finding reasons for you to spend money. I work on cars just like your's all the time. I like them.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2002 Chrysler Concorde

Beware speed sensors seldom fail. Chrysler products transmission have a limp mode where they only shift to second gear when something goes wrong and many times when nothing is wrong. If the speedometer fails it goes to limp. If an OBD scan gives a transmission code sometimes clearing the code will end the problem. When driving if the transmission shifts one time as it should the sensor is working.

I have a 2004 concorde 2.7 liters , i just washed the car , suddenly check engine light appears out , the car shifts fine within the early few minutes but later it wont shift to 3rd it stay on 2nd gear,...

Could be water that touched one of your electronics that makes your transmission having problems try to dry the Transmission electronic connectors with low air pressure and see whats happens.Good luck

The car starts off in 2nd gear (automatic) and wint change out.1992 dodge stealth

My Chrysler Concorde lxi did the same thing. The computer for the transmission has a "limp home" mode that places the car in 2nd, and won't let it shift. This is to reduce damage to the transmission while you are still able to drive it home, or to the nearest shop. This isn't something you can fix yourself...take it to a reputable transmission shop, who can plug their diagnostic computer (specialized for the transmission computer) to pinpoint the problem.

94 Chrysler Concorde Tranny Problems

Have your transmission oil filter changed;
it is located under the transmission pan
The oil is what makes the transmission shift
When you shut off the engine it stops the transmission pump then when you start up again the transmission shifts until the filter clogs again

Chrysler concorde doesn't shift out of first

It sounds like it is in limp mode, this means that there is a transmission problem. The trans will go into limp mode to protect from further damage. You need to take it to a trans shop to have diagnostic test

Sorry but if your reverse is having trouble you will probably have to replace or rebuild tranny like me. Otherwise try new filter and fluid first.
