Check the fuse panel inside the engine compartment it is a large black box with a lid and has several large wires going to it the fuses for the trailer harness and lights etc are in there.

check the wiring in the trailer connection as they tend to corrode off the copper wires or the wires tend to get pulled out on disconnecting

Can't figure out how to wire up my trailer

You will need a ground wire first.
If you have a car built in the USA since about 1985, you have separate ground wires all over the car to each electrical component. You will need to find one and add a wire for the trailer so the trailer electric will be grounded to the car.
The ground wires on 4 prong flat plugs are white in color.
If your car is older than that, you can drill a hole in the metal frame and attach the ground wire to the frame at the rear of the car.
Next do the taillights.
Find the hot wire to the taillight on either side or to the license plate light and add a wire to that one to go to the trailer.
This wire is usually brown if you are using a flat 4 wire plug set up.
The next wire is the left turn signal, that wire is usually yellow in color, Finally, the right turn signal wire is green.
Understand you can have a real conflict if the trailer light do not match the car lights.
In that case, you may need to buy an adapter to make them work. What I mean is, if you have a separate bulb on the car for the turn signal and for the brake light, that will not match most trailers, and you will need to buy an electronic adapter.
God bless your efforts.

I have a 2005 silverado, I am tring to wire a 4 wire trailer plug to this truck. I have 1 wire to right signal, 1 wire to left signal, 1 wire to running lights and a ground wire. My problem is on the truck...

Under the pan on the drivers side u can install the proper harnes for your trailer. The maim post for trailer brakes is on the front fuse panel under the hood.If you are running your own in line trailer lights...........I would start at the main break away dis-connect.

Turn signals won't work in 98 Chevy Silverado

Have you checked to make sure you have a good ground connection from truck to trailer? If you don't it may be using your turn signal circuit for grounding. One way you might be able to check is to hook up trailer with key on and no lights turned on, then try turn signals. If they work this way then turn marker lights on, if they then do not work it is a ground issue. Otherwise it could be the trailer side of connection is not mated up to truck side of connection(left turn to left turn etc.). Hope this is helpful. KS
