If it leaves small spots the chances are its the pan gasket but the oil filter should be located up in front of the engine on the right hand side... depending on the size of motor

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

Has a bad oil leak coming from under the car . The only time it leaks is when the car is running, was told that it could be the oil pan gasket or the oil sending unit, what I wanted to know is where the...

The oil pressure sending unit screws into the engine block so you will need to look between the oil pan and the head.I suggest that you try tightening your oil filter first.

Instructions on performing an oil chane on a 1993 crown victoria

Lift the front of the car and support it on jack stands. Open the hood. Run the engine for a max of 5 mins. The goal is to warm the oil without making it (or anything you may touch) too hot (avoiding burns). remove the oil filler cap on the valve cover.

Put a pan below the oil filter (drivers side on the 4.6l v-8 engine). Unscrew the oil filter with a suitable oil filter wrench. Counterclockwise rotation will remove it. allow the oil in this area to drain fully.

Move the pan under the engine's oil pan. At it's lowest point there will be an angled bolt. Carefully loosen the bolt (counterclockwise rotation). Expect a healthy stream of oil to flow out quickly. Dont drop the bolt, it has a magnet on the end that will show if you have and metal debris in the engine oil. A few little flakes are nornal, chunks are not and indicates some engine problems.

When the oil has drained out, replace the bolt being careful not to overtighten (it's easy to strip the threads then you will have bigger problems). The washer on the bolt will seal from leaks so no need to overtorque it.

Next fill the filter with fresh oil and rub a slight amount on the rubber gasket seal at the perimeter of the filter. Install the oil filter until the gasket seal touches the milled face of the engine block. Turn 1/4 to 1/2 turn further to seal correctly.

Fill with the required amount of oil. Install the oil filler cap, visually inspect for any oil leaks. If none, start the engine and make sure the oil pressure dash light goes out (or the needle indicates pressure) within 5 seconds. If not, turn off engine quickly. If oil pressure is good, let it run for 1-2 mins. Turn it off, check under the car, and around the fliter for any fresh leaks. With the engine off, check the oil level on the dipstick with the car on level ground. If you need a little more oil to keep the level in the marked area on the dipstick, add some. DO NOT overfill the engine. Engine damage will occur. If you've put too much oil in, remove the drain bolt (as explained above).
Drop your used oil off at a collection depot (dont pour it down the drain, it's totally toxic to organic life).

You're done.
