Please have the driver check all fuses for the vehicle. There is a solenoid that works with this system. The fuse could have blown, and would cause a problem of not allowing the engagement of the safety lock.

The tranny must see that it is in N or P to start, so the solenoid that controls this, may still think that it is in D or other drive gears. That may cause the situation your driver is experiencing. The solenoid has a fuse.

To get it out, I had to pop off this little cap thing under the steering wheel column and there would be a button inside that would release the key ,If this did not work you need to chev service center...

Good luck...

Normally when turning the wheel the key must be turn

Try to do this

take off the minus (-) wire from the battery for a five minute and do it.

the battery should be connected then turn the key to unlock the wheel.check the fuse, if you see any faulty one replace it with one adjacent to it.

So i parked my car yesterday and took the key out to find out park, but reverse. now i cant start my car or change the gears! i can still put the keys in and out and turn it but the car wont start or shift...

Put the key in, turn it forward 2 clicks like normal. Make sure you push the brakes all the way down and then try to shift the gear to park. Ya, cars wont start in gear, they made that way. If it still wont go in gear, try turning the steering wheel left & right. Sometimes the wheel lock can mess with ya. If not still, you need to call a mechanic. Cuz actually, if you were in reverse instead of park, the key should have never came out. Also make sure the key is in ALL the way.

My 2002 2500HD 4x4 front axle not engaging

Try jacking up one side of the front and putting it on a jackstand. Then turn key on(but dont start it) and put it in 4hi. Try to spin the tire in the air. The drive shaft should not turn nor the wheel. If the wheel does then maybe the acuator is not moving in the axle. It worked when you pulled it out but it might be hanging up on something in the axle.

Locked Ignition but steering wheel free

Push gear selector up past park and it should loosen up, or press hard on the brake pedal. Shifter up past park usually loosens it up. Common GM problem.

When i put the key in the ignition the car beeps but it wont let me turn the key at all..

Try rocking the steering wheel back and forth, if the wheel was turned too sharp when the car was shut off the steering lock is putting too much pressure on the tumbler for the key to turn. If that doesn't work you will have to have the key and tumbler replaced.

Ignition problem

You've tried pulling steering wheel hard from one side to the other while turning key? Always try to avoid shutting vehicle off with wheels turned, keep straight when turning off. Are you parking on a sloped drive by chance? If yes, press hard on brake pedal when trying to turn key, if no luck, try rocking car forward ,back, while trying to turn key.

My 2001 chrysler sebring has been fine, but tonight i put they key in and it wont turn, it feels like something mechanical not electrical...they key goes in and out, just wont turn....any thoughts?

When you put the key in the ignition, try giving it a few good taps right on top of they key. That usually does the trick for me. Also, always be sure the wheels are straight before turning off the ignition. For some reason, parking with the wheels turned often causes this lockup problem for me. It can be a pain, but just keep tapping and it should unlock.
