Question about 2006 Ford F-150

1 Answer

My 4 wheel drive wouldn't come on. No 4h or 4L light either. I checked the fuse and found that the 30amp fuse was blow. as i proceeded to install a new one, it blew as well. and then another. I put the truck up on a lift and disconnect the harness to the transfer case motor in case there was a problem there and then installed another fuse and it blew as well. i have a 2006 f-150 fx4 5.4L. what could be the possible problem? oh yeah, my wife drove the truck on the highway doing around 65 with the truck in 4h, she said she wasn't paying attention. it hasn't worked since.

If you have a 30amp fuse then you have a electronic 4X4 system, the 30 amp fuse powers the 2 4X4 relays in the auxiliary relay box under the hood the wire from the fuse is a green wire, pull both relays and replace the fuse if the fuse still blows then there must be a short between the fuse box and the relay box, if the fuse does not blow then install the relays one at a time when you install one of them the fuse should blow but then you will know witch one has the short, if it is the clockwise relay then the short is in the red wire from the relay box to the motor on the transfer case if it blows with the counterclockwise relay then it is the orange wire from the relay box to the transfer case motor if the wire test less then 5 omes residence then replace the shift motor on the transfer case.

let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

I now have a suzuki samuri and do not know how to use 4x4 gears

Using the shorter gear leaver in the samurai, the gear choices are arranged in a simple U fashion. They are arranged in sequence. At left top, bottom, right middle and right top you have 2 high(2H), 4 hight (4H), neutral(N) and 4 low (4L).
2H- Engages rear wheel drive only.
4H- Engages all wheels in 4X4 mode.
N- Disengages all wheels (if you gonna tow your vehicle)
4L- Engages all wheels in 4X4 mode with 50% more torque but you cut your top speed by an equal amount.
If you have the OEM gear knob the diagram of the layout of the transfer box should be imprinted. 2 high should be used on dry and mildly wet paved roads. Using 4L or 4H in these conditions may result in damage to your transfer box. You may use 4L or 4H in any other road conditions.

How do you use 4 wheel drive on a suzuki samuri

the samurai doesn't have 2L it has 2H.
there are 4 modes on the transfercase. 2H, 4H, N and 4L.
2H engages the rear wheels only while 4H and 4L engages all 4 wheels. N disengages all 4 wheels, useful for flat towing.

How to ingage the for wheel drive

Yes the light should be on when it is in 4 wheel drive, either 4h or 4l, to engage it into 4h you need to lock the hubs then select 4h while moving. Now if u want to put it into 4L you need to first stop the truck, put it into neutral and then select 4L

How do I use the 4 wheel drive on my Ford Ranger XLT 2.5 TDi 2004

4L only to be used in extreme condtions
4H for off road/snow/ice
2H - normal driving

when switching to 4H vehicle must be stationary, as when changing from 4H to 4L
but it is possible to change from 4H back to 2H while in motion.
when 4wd is engaged a lamp will illuminate on dials telling that the hubs are free wheeling, when changing back to 2H you must press corresponding switch to dis-engage this function

No drive fron front wheels on my 05 navara ih 4h or 4l even when green light shows

There is a vacuum operated solenoid on the front drive axle housing, on the passenger side. This may have failed or has a broken or missing vacuum line to it. This unit may also be electrically activated in which case you'll want to check all pertaining fuses and relays. Thank you, Dana

I have a 2002 dodge durrango, 5.7 liter, and the 4 wheel drive will not engage into 4 wheel drive, what would be the problem?

I would check the fuse panel(s) for possable fuse issue.

If fuses related to the 4 wheel drive is not pop close the panel(s) up.

I would than hope into the truck and perform the 3 quick on/off with the key(do not start truck!! and let dash units turn on before turning back off) to see if there might be a code the comes up. If so, call or look on-line for your codes to describe what the issue is or could be.

If the truck does not show codes I would move on to perform this step:
- Start the truck
- Put foot on your break
- Take truck out of "OD" Overdrive
- Place the truck into "N"
- Switch the quick switch into 4H and let it sit for a few seconds and drop you truck into "D" with the "OD" off. If the light is flashing try to drop the truck into L1 with the "OD" off and wait a few seconds to see what this does. If the light on the 4H is still flashing take the gearshifter back to "N" and wait a few more seconds. If the 4H does not stop flashing try all of these steps for 4L. (What we are doing is seeing whether or not the switch is bad or the quick switch unit that allows the 4 wheel to kick in is bad.
- If the lights keeps flashing I would go to a repair shop that you would trust to assist in this issus.

Just as a FYI, I do have a 02 Durango and the 4H switches great it is the 4L that some times takes a while to switch. Another thing to remember that if you use your 4 wheel drive to go mudding in all the time you my have burned out the unit the it takes to perform this task of engaging the 4 wheel drive all together.

I hope this helps out with your issue and remember to perform the simple steps 1st before spending big money on repairs!

Why doesn't the light for my 4wheel drive high come on? 2004 F150

If fuses 11, 28, 29, 30 and 111 are all good and with the 4h & 4L indicators working at key on cluster self test, the only thing to check is the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) on each side for a vac leak, and that the vent is free of obstructions. ( vent is for the locked to unlock operation ).

Other wise the only place for the problem is with the Cluster itself. From your description the PCM is reading the ESOF switch change to 4H or 4L, and it shifts correctly, this leaves the return signal over the CAN bus to the cluster to turn the indicator lamps on.
This is why the check the check of IWE operation, the PCM might not be getting the indication that the front wheels are locked ?

Else the Cluster needs to be checked with a WDS ( Worldwise Diagnostic System ) tool at a dealer or higher end mechanic.
The Vehicle Communications Module needs to be installed to do the tests on the cluster.

Might be worth the time to check IWE operation ( mechanical and the vac operation ) prior to spending the cash.

Check transfer case wiring, possible loose wiring/open circuit. If your other lights in dashboard work such brake light, seat belt lights, engine light than it is not a fuse. raise all for tires from the ground and engage the four wheel drive remember to have in neutral and put in gear either 4L or 4H and see if the wheels in front move.
