Usually not, most GM cars that use a link from the top of the engine to the radiator core support have engine/transmission mounts that support the weight of the engine and transmission. The mount you describe sounds like a torque rod, there to control the torsional twist of the engine. Try loosening the bolts to this unit, if it will wiggle by hand it probably isn't bearing a load.

2003 chevy impala radiator removal process

Removal is through bottom of vehicle first drain the coolant and remove hoses if oil cooler equiped then drain engine oil as well and remove lines from the radiator( if it has an oil cooler radiator will have 2 small hard lines on the radiator one on each side) next remove mounts from bottom of the radiator there shouldn't be any top mounts since its basically a "pinch" mount now you should be able to remolve the radiator by sliding towards the engine just enough to clear the radiator cross member if planning to reuse the radiator take special care not to knock on the motor or any bolts part etc since its very easy to puncture
