Question about 1998 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

I just got a 1997 sebring with the 2.5l engine that is having misfiring and stalling issues. im told there are two different distributers with different shaft diameters for this year car but noone can tell me which one my car takes. they also cannot tell me what difference it makes or if they are interchangable. i was also told that the rotors are sold in different shapes and can be problems if the wrong one is used...can you explain this to me?

The difference between the two distributors are the drive shaft diameters, they are NOT interchangeable. The distributor rotor must be correct for the distributor it is installed in, this part is also not interchangeable between the two different ones. If the parts stores can't tell which distributor you need, call the dealer, give them your vin number, and they will tell you the correct diameter for your car. Once the parts store knows which distributor you need, they will know which rotor you need.

Cam senser. Get the whole distributer because it is in the distributer. go to a junk yard or you well pay a pretty price.

1998 crown vic Im having random misfires code po300 on cold starts it idle high then low and will stall unless i rev engine till it warms up

Now you go to a repair shop, and have it diagnosed

You have other codes for the coils, forget the PO300

You will need someone good with ford ignition issues,
to resolve the misfires, and possible do some other
preventative maintenance work,as the stalling is
another problem

No fire at distributor

The 1997 Chrysler Sebring 2.5L has a distributer with an intergrated coil. All other models have a distributerless ignition ("coil packs").

Start by testing the ASD (Automatic Shut Down) relay, then the CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) and CMH (Camshaft Position Sensor).

The CMH test the same way likethe CPS; the ASD is located on cowl, at left rear of engine compartment.

Hope helps.
