Unless you're an experienced mechanic I would suggest taking it to the shop since this is a pretty tough vehicle to replace an alternator on. But if you still want to do it yourself here are the steps:

Disconnect the battery cables.
Remove the right intermediate axle shaft.
Remove the right lower splash shield screws and the pin-type retainer.
Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
Remove the nut and position the bracket and wiring harness aside.
Remove the upper generator mounting bolts.
Remove the lower generator bolts and position the generator aside.
Remove the generator mounting bracket bolts and remove the bracket.
Remove the generator electrical connectors.
Remove the B+ nut and cable.
Remove the connector.
Rotate the generator to gain clearance, and remove through the opening in the fender well.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Interior lights come on, all dash lights, RPM goes to zero while car is running and car just quits. Goes click, click when trying to turn over and then will run again for a minute or two before quitti

alternator is not charging battery. The car is starting and running on the battery till it goes dead. Check the alternator installation , something is not installed correctly or you have the wrong type of alternator. Alternators now a days can physically fit into the vehicle, but have different electronics built in. voltage regulators, diodes, etc. You give. no year make model of vehicle so it is very difficult to help you.

    Replace alternator belt

If this is like mine it's a pig of a job, you need a lot of time and patience, as the alternator is at the back of the engine and you have to remove all the plastic shroud that covers all your other pulleys and timing belts, you will find that it's very difficult to get the shrouds of let alone getting to them as there is no clearance you will have to remove the engine mounting under the gear box to tilt the engine even then it still difficult. I've done all my time belts ect. and would advise you to take it to a garage and let them do it yes it will cost you but well worth it, believe me it's a job and a half.
Good luck you will need it.

How do you remove the alternator bracket

Go to autozone website. Make a free account, put in the year, make and model, look for the free repair guides. If you are having trouble with the alternator though, I am very concerned about you working on the AC

    Hard to say.
Depending on which engine you have, the alternator may be difficult to get to. You would need to remove the belt, disconnect the battery, and remove the mounting bolts.

2003 cts. I need to replace alternator. can i do it myself and how much does the part cost?

I have actually done this on my 2003 CTS. The part was about $300 at Autozone. You have to disconect the battery, take off the belt (which can be done with a rachet to move the pully above the alternator pully to loosen the belt, remove the 2 long bolts keeping it in place, remove the sensor wire and the wire that goes to the battery at the back of the alternator. I had to use a crow bar to move the alternator to the side so I could remove it. Here's the hard part, trying to finegle the alternator out was difficult. You may want to remove the pan bolted to the bottom of the alternator (4-6 bolts I think) If I were to do it again I probably would have also removed the big plastic air intake part.

    Failed Alternator

It can be difficult. You have to do it all from under the car. You have to even unbolt the front end of the car from the frame to get enough room. But you can do it. I know the shops will soak you bad. I would suggest buying a repair manual. It's really not as bad as it sounds.

I've got a 95 Pathfinder. I put a new batter in last week. Yesterday I needed a jump to get it started. Is this the alternator, if so is it difficult to put an alternator in yourself.
