Gas leak on driver's side of fuel injector, coming out of a valve with a rubber hose attached circulating back to the manifold cover. Located in the middle of the fuel injector tube.

It could be you fuel pressure regulator. The regulator, located near the fuel rail, is vacuum operated. It controls the amount of fuel to the injectors and back to the tank. when it goes bad the rubber diaphragm cracks and lets fuel leak into the vacuum side of the regulator and the vacuum comes off of the intake manifold.

ok now before you start disconnect the negative battery cable then relieve the fuel pressure by opening the gas cap, then remove the valve cover, then the throttle body, remove the two clamps then disconnect the wire harness from the intake manifold, then the four injectors connectors from the injectors,then remove the engine wire protector from the right side of the intake manifold,remove the EGR valve and the EGR valve pipe,remove the top fitting on the fuel filter and remove the fuel line from the fuel filter,move the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail,remove the fuel rail bolts, then remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail,and when replacing the injectors always put new seals because the get hard and may not seal properly

Revs up while idling


If you didn't correctly reinstall the PCV hose from the black box at the throttle body back on to the valve cover, you might have a vacuum leak causing your high idle. I'd check that first. That is a common mistake to miss that rubber hose. It's hidden underneath the black box at the front of the valve cover. If it is loose, just loosen up the boot at the throttle body, and the two bolts on the right side of the black box above the valve cover. Reposition the 90 rubber hose back on to the valve cover and recheck it. A hissing noise with the engine running is a good indication that the engine has a vacuum leak somewhere- usually a rubber hose disconnected from the intake manifold or throttle body.

When i start my 1998 Ford Expedition, it immediatley dies out unless i step on the gas right away.. but once i let go of the gas pedal, it dies right away... what could be the problem? please help...


The age of your vehicle also guarantee's a vacuum leak. It may sound silly but the truth is rubber grommets, and hose's shrink and dry out over time and the harsh environment under the hood makes it worse. Check all vacuum lines and fittings attached to the intake manifold, valve covers (pcv valve), and be sure to check for a vacuum fitting on top of the intake just behind the throttle body. Does it fit tight in the hole? You can seal loose fittings with a high-temp RTV (Red) silicone sealant/adhesive. Several small leaks add up and your engine, heat/AC, and transmission will be all to glad to tell you about it.

Starter needs to be replaced. Need instruction procedure for a do it yourselfer.


Hi, I have pasted the procedure from autozone.com below. Because this requires removal of the intake manifold, please be as sure as possible that your starter needs replacement. If you have any doubt, please let me know what your symptoms are and what troubleshooting you have done that led you to believe your starter is bad. Also, if you have any questions about the procedure below, please let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.


Removal & Installation


Disconnect the Negative battery cable


Relieve the fuel system pressure (you can do this by placing a rag over the schrader valve on the fuel rail and pressing in the valve stem--just be careful not to spray fuel on your eyes).


Drain the cooling system.


Remove or disconnect the following:


  • Intake manifold heat shield
  • Sight shield
  • Coil module connectors from the coil modules located on the valve covers
  • Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose and valve from the valve cover
  • Fuel regulator vacuum tube
  • Vacuum tubes from the AIR solenoid
  • Fuel inlet and return lines
  • Fuel rail bracket retaining nut at the rear lift bracket
  • 2 pushnuts attaching the engine coolant heater wire and set it aside, if equipped
  • Fuel injector electrical connections
  • Fuel rail and injectors
  • Plenum duct clamp at the rear of the intake manifold, loosen
  • Intake manifold bolts and the manifold
Clean the manifold mating surfaces.


Remove or disconnect the following:

To install:

Install or connect the following:

  • -S- terminal wire. Torque the nut to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  • Starter electrical connectors. Torque the nut to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  • Starter motor
  • Mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

  1. Grease the inside edge of the rubber plenum duct.
  2. Position the intake manifold by performing the following sub-steps:
    1. Place the rear of the intake manifold into the plenum duct.
    2. Place the front of the intake manifold downward on to the cylinder heads.

  3. Install the intake manifold bolts and torque to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) in the sequence illustrated. DO NOT torque the intake manifold bolts when the engine is HOT or at operating temperature.
  4. Make sure the plenum duct is fully attached to the rear of the intake manifold and tighten the plenum duct clamp to 20 inch lbs. (2.25 Nm).
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel rail and injectors and tighten the rail retainers to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) Fuel injector electrical connections Alternator coolant pipe/surge tank pipe and position onto the fuel rail studs Engine coolant heater wire onto the studs and install the pushnuts, if equipped Fuel rail bracket retaining nut at the rear lift bracket and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) Fuel inlet and return lines Vacuum tubes to the AIR solenoid Fuel regulator vacuum tube Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve and hose to the valve cover Coil module connectors to the coil modules located on the valve covers Sight shield Intake manifold heat shield Negative battery cable
  6. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

These are the steps to follow to remove the Starter Motor and the Intake Manifold. If you follow them you'll have no problems when the job is done. Pay special attention to the pre-installation steps for the Intake Manifold.

To Replace the Starter, Remove or disconnect the following:
  1. Negative battery cable
  2. Intake manifold
  3. Starter electrical connectors
  4. Starter motor

Starves for fuel surges and will eventually cut off. starts right back and may go a mile or two if you are easy on the accelerator. changed the fuel filter did not help. broke the connection on the outlet...


Interesting..you want to check up front on your fuel rail this is located top of the motor where all your injectors are attached to . there should be a bleeder screw sometimes plastic kinda looks like a tire valve. With you just turning the key to the on position the fuel pump should come on and charge the rail. about 40-60psi so with the key on, not engine on depress the valve and fuel should shoot right out (be careful have a rag handy about a tablespoon will come out.) If this is the case good. The other thing to check is vacuum. check to see if you can hear a vacuum leak under the hood and visible check all rubber and poly-plastic lines routed under the hood. Paying special close attention to the intake manifold, and Throttle body. Good luck hope this helps

Location of pcv on 3.3 dodge caravan


Look for a large rubber tube attached to the manifold port located on the top left side (passenger) rising up and and then curving down to the rear valve cover pcv port. It is a squeeze, but work the hose off the pcv port, and "voila" the pcv valve is INSIDE the port. Pull it out with its attached grommet. Do not attempt to clean. Replace, only, and save the receipt for the engine warranty. This engine can burn oil if it is a valve seal or manifold plenum problem.

The Evaporative Emission Control System monitors the fuel vapor flow between the engine intake manifold and the EVAP canister. The system failure occurs when a leak or blockage between the intake manifold, the EVAP canister purge valve and the EVAP canister is detected by the PCM.

Code P1443 Possible Causes:

- Pinched, blocked or plugged fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister)

- Damaged EVAP canister

- Disconnected, cracked or cut fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister)

- Damaged EVAP canister purge valve

Notes: Check for audible vacuum noise in the engine compartment or significant fuel odor in the engine compartment or near the EVAP canister.

On my '98 4x4, the cannister purge valve is located under the hood, mounted on the driver's side fender.

The EVAP cannister itself is located underneath the truck, in back, between the spare tire and the truck bed (have to remove the spare to get at it).

If it were me I would hold off on replacing parts...I'd drive around some more first, making sure that I don't overfill the gas tank or run it dry and making sure I replace the gas cap properly, etc. If the code returns, then its time to think repairs.

Pathfinder 2003 pcv


The PCV valve is located in the valve cover on the passenger side of the vehicle. The valve is closer to the firewall than it is to the front of the engine. It has a hose attached to it and threads into the valve cover.
