If the engine overheated excessively originally, as a result of the faulty water pump, it is possible that it has a cracked head or leaking head gasket. This can be determined by having a test done to detect hydrocarbons (exhaust gas) in the cooling system. It is also possible that there was an air pocket in the cooling system after you replaced the water pump, so recheck the coolant level and test drive it again.

If the belt is put on wrong it can make the water pump run backwards but did you run it for awhile with cap off for all air to work out it will bubble up then go down on fluid just keep filling until no air is in system

I have a 1997 dakota 5.2 motor. Had to replace fan blade & clutch. Im putting a new water pump on now. if i still have noise what other things should i check.

Alternator, A/C Compressor, Power-steering pump, smog pump, idler pully(s).

I would pull the belt(s) and check each pulley for wobble or rough spinning.

Hope this helps

My truck starts running hot then I turn the heater on and it blows cold air but every once in a while the heater will throw out hot air. Then the temp gauge will go down. I've check med the radiator cap...

I'd still check the thermostat. Or basically just replace it. Have you ever drained all the antifreeze and flushed the system? Good time to do both. If the hose's get real hot that doesn't really mean the thermostat open. Wouldn't they get hot even if the thermostat didnt open.? If the thermostat was stuck open you'd would have cold air and low temp gauge. Then maybe hit a pump or something and have the thermostat stick closed and have high temp. Maybe water pump. Check it when you have the belt off. Spin, pull & push the water pump pulley around. I'd replaced my water pump at about 110,000 on a '97 dodge Dakota. My 97 never had a very good heater. Always heated up more after driving. Idle never got it warmed up.

Can't put gas in ? 1997 dodge dakota

Maybe you are puttin in the pump hose to far inside the tube. try putting it in a little bit at a time and not entirely into the tube. then try it.
