Yes, try pulling the connector off the switch and connecting the terminals in the connector with a paper clip. If that puts the lights on, replace the switch.

Hi, if the switch is OK, and not even the center brake is working, you have a wiring problem. Check to see if there is power at the brake switch. Use a 12 volt test light with the clip attached to a good chassis ground, and probe that connector again. The orange wire should be hot.

I figured it out. There was no brake light switch in the 1st place, There was only the cruise control release switch so i thought that was the brake light switch. I went to the parts store got a brake light switch found the connector and BAM had brake lights. Thanks for your help.

I have one in my back window it work but my tail lights brake lights do not work on my 86 cutlass

Start with your fuses under the dashboard by the driver's shin bone. Remember that fuses can be burned out and not show it.
Take a test light or meter and check the contacts on each end where the fuses go, with the key on, and the lights on, to be sure there is electricity getting to the fuse.
After that, check each light bulb in the rear of the car.
Remember, the bulb can be burned out and not show.
Also check your clearance lights on the rear.
Take a test light or instrument and check all the sockets to be certain the electricity is getting to the socket when the lights are on and when the brake pedal is pressed.
God bless your efforts.

1986 bronco left taillight

If you are not getting power from the headlight switch for that circuit, but the other side works, you'll have to trace the wiring. The socket has two wires plus a ground. One wire is for the tail lamp circuit and the other is for brake-turn signal.

My running lights work my turn signals work why don't my brake lights

You either have a bad brake light switch or a bad fuse that powers your brake lights. Go to your fuse panel and check the fuse first. If it checks good then check the brake light switch. The switch will be located on the brake pedal at the top. There should be two wires into the switch. One will have power at all times. as you depress the brake pedal it makes the connection in the switch to the other wire which then sends power to the brake lights and illuminates the bulbs. Use an electrical tester to make sure you have power in and power out when the brake pedal is depressed.

1986 oldsmobile cutlass turn signal not working anymore...emergency flashers work brake lights work just not turn signals

OMG. Someone with a car older than my '87 toyota. Possibly a bad switch, but first locate your turn flasher, maybe that is bad, easier to try than another switch. Turns should have a fuse, too. check that.

Brake lights aren't working changed fuses and bulbs could it be the turn signal light switch?

the turn signal light switch has nothing to do with the brake lights, the problem is most likely the brake light switch which you should find around the area of the brake pedal it may be faulty or has come loose & needs to be adjusted & tightened back up........hope this helps......cheers.

Stop replacing things and turn off your hazard lights. If this doesn't fix you may have to replace your steering column turn signal switch. Youer hazard lights aren't working likely to a blown fuse.

I have an 1986 camaro iroc. i have brake lights and turn signals but no tail lights or dash lights, i have power to the tail light replaced both bulbs. i cant seem to find the fuse . does anyone know where...

Bulbs work just like a fuse. When old they just short out like a weak fuse bowing out. Since the lights do not have a fuse you need to replace the headlamp switch for this switch controls the tail lamps. The directionals are controlled by the directional switch, and the brakes are controlled by a brake light switch. Those have fuses for they have switches. Headlight switches do not have a fuse
