I have a late 2011 Holden Captiva LX7 AUTO 3.0 PETROL. WHEN TURNING IT FEELS LIKE IT IS ON A VERY ROUGH ROAD


Hi Ray This needs to be diagnosed properly I can suggest a couple of things but strongly advise a Holden Dealer. The squeal i would say is the serp belt slipping. What may need replacing is the alternator pulley, serp belt and tensioner. The feeling you get when turning may be as simple as the front wheels either rubbing on a distorted or loose mud flap or an under arch cover, there is one either side which are like felt covers these over time also come loose or distort and touch the tyres when turning. The other more involved issue are the front lower arms they have a very large rubber bush fitted at the back of the arm they perish over time and road noise and shudder can sometimes be felt at steering wheel. As I mentioned I would check around the front wheel arches and strongly advise a Holden Dealer for the rest. Good luck

How do I change a fan belt on Nissan Hardbody 3 litre TDI, 2005? I have struggled for hours, I changed the damaged tensioner pulley


did you pivot the belt tension-er to get enough slack
to get the serp belt on

if this is the correct tensioner pully for your car

there is a torx bolt on the arm part to slacken off
not undo fully

the early 1991, was 1.6L and has no SERP
end SERP:
they run old fashion V belts, did you even look first to see what is there?

its not a serp, in 1991.
but many posters here get year wrong, and that.
ISUZU engines per this list
1.6 L 4XE1 DOHC I4 (US, Canada only) 12valve
1.6 L 4XE1W turbo DOHC I4, 16valve.
1.8 L 4XF1 DOHC I4
the fan V belt , IIRC is the water pump,fan and alternator V belt.
if that is the belt you are alluding to then the alternator
pivots and adjust to tension it.

now ill quote the fsm on the 1.6L with v belts.
here we go, what you mean by fan , my guess is Alternator belt, its called that because the ALT is the adjustment.



Loosen the component-to-mounting bracket bolts.

Use a belt tension gauge (J-23600-B or equivalent) to determine proper belt adjustment; place the gauge at the center of the belt between the longest span.

Applying belt tension pressure on the component, adjust the drive belt tension to the correct specification:

For 1990 and 1991 vehicles, adjust the power steering pump belt to 145 lbs on vehicles with A/C or to 90 lbs on vehicles without A/C.

For 1990 - 1992 vehicles, adjust a new alternator belt to 140-180 lbs or a used belt to 110-150 lbs.

For 1992 power steering pump belts and 1993 vehicles, adjust the belt so that 22 lbs of thumb pressure produces the specified belt deflection at the center of the belt, between 2 pulleys. Under proper belt tension a new belt should deflect about 0.31-0.47 in. (8-12mm) or a used belt about 0.28-0.43 in. (7-11mm).

While holding the correct tension on the component, tighten the component-to-mounting bracket bolt.

When the belt tension is correct, remove the tension gauge."

Loosen off the belt and spin each idler pulley Check for roughness of the bearings. Check each unit the same way and when you get one that is rough to turn or makes a noise that will ne the faulty unit. If you have a viscous fan hub check for looseness as it has a bearing as well.

I was driving my 2000 dodge durango v-8 318 it had a squeaking noise in the area around the serp. belt. that blt was only 3 months old. as i was driving i lost power steering and the car started to...


it could have been a fluke bad belt but the pulleys should be checked for alignment and looseness.bearings go bad and can sometimes cause a wobbly pulley that can throw a belt.the belt tensioner may need replacing as these can create problems if the belt is not held tight enough.

The tensioner pulley may be faulty. There should be a lot of tension on the pulley to keep the belt tight. If the tensioner can be moved easily, it should be replace.

is it comming from the serp belt?look when the car is off to see if the belt looks brown and shiny and or cracked,,it could be the belt is loose or just old and worn and slipping on the pulleys,,may be your noise,or if you mean squealing while driving it could be the brake pads are low and the low indicator squealers are hitting the rotors to let you know the pads are low and need replacement

Serp. belt off alignment


Did you replace the belt? You mentioned the pulleys, but not the belt. If the belt is new, check the grooves on the pulley that appears to be a problem and make sure there is no residue stuck in the grooves. Also, make sure you can't wiggle the pulley that is giving the problem. It is possible for a belt to cause some damage when it comes apart.
