With the car off, open hood locate A/C compressor, 91 linc bottom of engine/front side.
the serpentine belt/pulley will not move, But the center/clutch 1/2 of compressor SHOULD
rotate by hand, If Not Compressor lock-up, older compressors spin freely, ones w/less wear/new
will turn by hand, but harder to do.
If you have to replace compressor, find someone, not dealer, expensive+ they will sell you Ford
Compressor$$$$, when you find one through a friend, ONLY USE a manufactured Compressor
"Four-Seasons" aprox $220. for compressor, a new Dryer $35.00 and Orifice Tube/Filter $4.00
Advance Auto Is distributor for 4-Seasons, MAKE SURE THEY ONLY SELL U a 4-Seasons
compressor & Dryer, instead of a China/junk one.
I'am a Licensed EPA Section 609 & Universal 608 Section A/C guy, been doing this for aprox 9 years on the side. NEVER had a problem from a 4-Season Product yet.
Does your Sytem have Freon in it? good, none/small leak or big leak, big leak= lost of A/C Oil and
air in system.
When your A/C guy removes the Orfice/Filter from the A/C tubing, what is collected on the Orfice Tube/Filter will tell you what happened inside your A/C System and will let him know if you need
to Flush your A/C system internal out 1/2 way or completely or not at all.
See some fine specs of metal [like glitter] normal, square/larger chunks, compressor metal, was Orfice tube Oily/normal failure, if Dry/No Oil Present, someone forgot to add oil during low freon.
If you donot have the proper tools to do this, dont try, if you do, above should help explain what
most likely happened for the newer people.
Remember, A/C Low pressure switch during Low Freon level detected in system Should Shut A/C Compressor Off Preventing Burning up A/C Compressor, The system gets lubricated by aprox 8oz of PAG oil for Fords mixed in with the 2lbs of Freon 134-A, when the freon moves through system it lubing at same time.
People with A/C gauges, A/C unit been off for awhile, connect gauges, a difference of 4psig between
the Low gauge and High Gauge is telling, you have a restriction in your system, this restriction
is located at the Orfice Tube/Filter, what causing this, some of the above, compressor metal filings,
air/moisture left in system during last vacuum pump-down, should pump down aprox 45minutes,
Dryer Desicant bag failure, will see small black charcol looking specs all over filter surface, that before they got collect at this filter, they went through you A/C Compressor, only designed for
Vapor Freon, not trash or liquid freon.

I unplugged my battery and I can hear something ticking fast, when I pull out fuses under the hood (main fuses) noises change..

could be the solenoid on the starter motor clicking, or sometimes there is just enough battery power to put lights on but higher drain items just click on & off trying to cut in, test the battery output voltage should be at least 12v to start, a fully charged battery will be 13.5v, under 12v is no good.

Hey Jane, .. hhhmmm..Only does it in 2H..not 4H... this tells me that it is in the front wheel drive line..(the noise quits in 4H)..obviously something in the front drive line is loose or worn out... THIS could be a safety issue... PLEASE take it to a qualified professional for a diagnosis...

My car is making an awful groaning grinding noise noise when it starts. The noise stops after it starts. Put my foot on the brake it starts again. put thr car in reverse no problem put it in,drive it...

It's your exhaust mounts or broken exhaust bolts. It does it in drive st idle n under load because the motor is sitting in rubber mounts made to dampen vibration. Therefore the motor tilts to the left in reverse pulling the exhaust away from your under carraige, and to the right in drive causing the loose exhaust to vibrate against something. Check your heat shields also. They fall apart n do the same noise. Piece of cake.

When I first start my truck I can hear a loud rattling sound coming from the back. Hear this sound also when I am in idle. Don't notice it when I pick up speed.

Check to see if one of your brackets holding the exhaust pipe has come loose. That'll make a rattling sound - especially if it towards the end by the tailpipe. When you're accelerating - more air is forced thru your exhaust at a faster rate, so it's not moving as much as when you're sitting still and the truck is just at an idle with less air/exhaust moving thru the tailpipe. If it's only making the noise while the truck is stationary & the noise stops one the truck is moving - that pretty much rules out anything to do withe the drive-train or suspension. You are sure the noise is from the back & not coming from under the hood? If under the hood - check your oil level ASAP.

Van wont start, loud, has a burning smell and the oil light is on

I'd feel best if you can find a reputable mec and have it looked at. There are a mess of things that can make loud noise. You could have anything from a bad berring to a blown engine. When your'e on the road remember go to someone who is reccomended or a national chain or dealer..

Strange noises under hood...

this is one of those things that can drive an auto mechanic nuts. probably start with two people if the noise only happens with the hood shut it could be even these cases it may be worth it to talk to a dealer.maybe this is a somewhat comman problem.if it makes the noise with soom regularity with the hood open, have someone try to get a better feel for where the noice is coming from.these are not simple to find=effort.

When the car starts moving there is a loud squeeling noise out of the front driver side of the car then when we stop moving the noise stops

Could be a loose or worn serpentine belt check to make sure it is in good shape. also take a look under the hood and make sure all the pulleys are moving freely when the engine is running.
