1999 3000gt with DOHV 3l. Running fine then sounds like no oil in engine on startup. Also exhaust smells like raw gas

Raw gas smell may be the culprit of starting noise. Leaky injector(s) could be causing some fuel to enter chambers as you shut off engine, washing oil off cylinder walls and diluting oil. Check fuel pressure key on/engine off and test for gas in the oil.

Oil pressure light comes on and valves rattle after warmup

Sounds like a failing engine.
Assuming the engine is full of oil, could be a weak oil pump or worn bearings.

Oil Pressure Problem

It sounds like crank is worn or bearings or much clearance between them.i gather the oil pressure drops right down to hardly nothing.I gather u cleaned the oil pick up when u did the sump.u might want to do a engine flush to clean the oil ports.

I have no oil pressure in the car we pulled the valve cover today and found 6 of the rocker arms were not installed, we havent pulled the other cover yet however with this not installed would this affect...

are you serious? Aside from that question. If there are rocker arms missing it could affect the oil pressure. Are the oil feed holes in the area of each missing rocker plugged off?

Perhaps I had better back-track here. If the oil lube system has no restrictions in it then there will be minimal oil pressure developed. The oil pump will be pumping oil to the lower end of the engine and that will be where oil press if any will be developed.

The rocker area has drillings which restrict the oil delivery from the pump, however, the rocker arms themselves offer resistance to the oil supply and the oil must have enough flow and pressure to form a circle of oil within the rocker arm and thus keep it clear of the shaft. The oil flow goes through the rocker arm, and down over the valves and pushrods,(if fitted) and drops back down into the oil pan. Different set ups can be used, but that's a basic configuration.

The engine lubrication is designed with certain resistances, and they in turn affect the flow of oil and the pressure developed by the pump.

Good luck.

Looking at buying a 1996 3000gt vr-4. noticed at idle it has low oil pressure. after test drive i think i heard a faint "knock" noise. to me it didn't sound like lifters. i have been reading things on the...

low oil pressure can be caused by worn oil pump or WORN BEARINGS!! The larger clearances reduce backpressure in system. Car may have 50K left in engine or less.

1994 Mits 3000gt. The radiator fan will not come

there is a heat sencing unit on the fan or radiator which cuts in and out to let the engine maintain operating temperature. If this is faulty, the fan will never go on and the car will overheat.

If you can not find this switch let me know.

Put in new rod and main bearings oil drops to zero after warmup 1997 2.2 honda accord put in manual gage to check for sure also put in new headgasket and rings good oil pressure to start then gone what am...

Well the cam bearings will have to do with this also,if it has them,if not it can be the wear in the cam carriers. But most likely the crankshaft journals are worn to much, the crank would need turning, and over size rod,and main bearings would need to be installed.

Oil light stays on until car warmup. 3 miles drive time at speed of 35 mph

not good, but do not panic until you check actual engine oil pressure

that being said...take the concern seriously because the light turns on when oil pressure is less than 10psi

have you changed your oil recently?
did you use the correct type 5w20

have you checked actual oil level?
I have seen a lot of town cars that burn oil and you may actually just be low

Check oil level first
Check oil pressure second

if both check out then you have an oil pump problem or a more serious engine concern

keep me posted!

Hard start/long crank after warmup and sits for 20 30 minites. ( new inj, new plugs, clean throttle body. Don

get yourself a fuel pressure gauge from sears hardware and check the pressure. watch to see if the pressure drops down as the truck sits. if it's dropping down you may need to replace the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump. more likely the regulator

Low idle and low oil pressure and now valve clatter in my 1991 montero. is it feasible to replace the oil pump, if that is the problem, on a vehicle that has over 250,000 miles? i'd like to keep this...

Great truck I am now on my second with 280K miles. The lower oil pressure is probably a combination of a worn pump and now worn bearings with greater clearances.. thus less pressure. The oil pump on your 3.0 V6 is located behind the front crank pulley. To access it I'd strongly recommend pulling the entire engine as the oil pan will need to be removed and the fron of the engine will have to go too. Your engine is found in many cars including the dodge stealth and Mitsubishi 3000GT. I belive the years to 1992 run the same pistons and compression after which they run at 10-1 and use a knocks sensor which your truck does not use. I would locate a good used block and check its clearances and cylinders if it requires rebuild I'd have this done and then fit with rebuilt heads or remove your engine and have the short block rebuilt and have the heads fitted with new valve guildes and seals (have valves gound too) You can check ebay or craiglest for a block see link:

for rebuild kits and such, I love my Montero she has the aerodynamics of a barn but never lets me down. It is a lot of work but in my view worth the time to do.
I hope this may have helped,
