The terminal marked positive should have a live wire to it, the other should be earthed by the ignition module to generate the current for the spark, Your module should look something like this:_

Hi Jason, Sounds like you have a coil pack and one of your coils is faulty. To check which coil is faulty just pull a spark plug lead off a spark plug and plug the spark plug lead onto a SPARE spark plug, Now earth it to the CLEAN motor or body (make sure the spark plug is touching metal) Start the motor, it's going to run ROUGHER than usual but you'll see if that spark plug is sparking... If it sparks then that coil is good. Turn the motor off and replace the spark plug lead back on to the original spark plug. Repeat with the next spark plug lead and so on until you start your car and the spark plug doesn't spark, THAT'S YOUR FAULTY COIL...

Where is the 5th coil pack located on a 2005 buick rendezvous?


Hi patricia, If you have a faulty coil and your car's running rough to find the faulty coil just pull a spark plug lead off and start your car, If it runs (ROUGHER) than before then that coil is ok. Turn the car off and replace that spark plug lead back on to the spark plug. Repeat with the next spark plug lead and so on until you start your car and it runs the same as if THAT spark plug lead is on or off, NOW TO MAKE SURE THIS IS THE FAULTY COIL, Put a spark plug into the spark plug lead that's off and earth it to the motor or body (it has to be touching steel), Start the motor and if that's the faulty coil the spark plug won't spark I hope this helps.....

How do i test the ignition coil to know if its good or bad


With the vehicle in 'Park'[Auto] or 'Neutral' and hand brake on [Manual], open the bonnet and locate the ignition coil.
1. Ensure the lead is fully engaged [and that all wiring connections are tightened and free from dirt and corrosion] then follow it to the distributor cap and check that the other end is properly connected and the plug leads are also.
2. Remove a spark plug lead at the plug then remove the plug.
3. Connect the removed plug to it's lead and while holding the threaded portion of the plug in positive contact with bare metal on the engine [exhaust manifold] have someone turn the ignition key to crank the engine.
WARNING: Be careful if the engine is hot and wear gloves and use pliers with insulated handles when holding the test plug.
4. As the engine is turning over inspect the spark plug electrodes for any sign of sparking. A blue spark is what you want to see. Orange spark or none at all is bad news for the coil which needs to be replaced.

Initial start up the engine sounds like its running on 2 cylinders under powered intil the temp gauge reads normal ???? any body got the answer please


Cold starting misfires can often be caused by either tired high tension spark plug leads or ignition coil packs. If replacing leads, then replace with a full, new set. Coils can be changed individually, but it is often the case that if one has failed, then the others aren't far behind. Some cars have individual coil packs on each spark plug. Some cars have a single pack for all plugs and some have coil packs which may control two or more plugs.

To check for a misfire (ignition failure) follow these steps:

(Cold start) (Use a pair of insulated pliers)

1) Start the vehicle

2) When the vehicle starts misfiring, disconnect plug leads or coil pack connections one at a time. If the vehicle idles even more roughly, then that plug or pack should be considered fine.
Replug each connection before disconnecting the next one. Once you disconnect a plug lead or coil pack connection and find no difference in poor engine running, then you have likely found the offending cylinder. Check the spark plug condition, lead and/or coil condition and connections on that cylinder.

3) Replace components as necessary.

How do i change the spark plugs on a 2003 kia rio


INSPECTION

1. Disconnect high-tension code from spark plug.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Connect the spark plug to a high tension code.
4. Hold the spark plug with insulated pliers 5~10mm from a ground.
5. Crank the engine and verify that there is a strong blue spark.
If there is no spark, inspect the following points.

3 Check if the ignition coil is electrically charged

REMOVAL

Do not attempt any maintenance on spark plug if engine is hot.
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Carefully remove high-tension leads.
3. Use compressed air to blow any dirt or debris from around spark plug hole.
4. Check that spark plug fits squarely in spark plug socket and remove spark plug.

Raise a vehicle and install SST(OK552 131 001) in order to replace cylinder 2, 4, 6 spark plug.

INSTALLATION

1. Install spark plug into cylinder head.

Tightening torque : 18~22lb-ft (25~30N·m, 2.5~3.0kg-m)

2. Reconnect high-tension leads.
3. Reconnect negative battery cable.
