1999 dodge ram 1500 w/ 318ci gas engine. Transmission shifts up and down between 30 and 40 mph.

1995 dodge 2500 diesel surges at 40 mph and faster and +/- 1000 rpm each time it surges.  Seems to surge more often when I hit bumps, but it does it on the straight away as well.  Might this be a throttle position sensor problem?

It could either be bad injectors or the injector pump could be bad, first try jsut changeing the fuel filter. then go to the injectors and if that dont fix it its got to the injector pump.

99 Dodge Ram 4x4 owner here also, Most Auto parts stores will do a free plug and play diagnosis if You can drive Your truck to them, That will give You the problem codes and if the salesman knows His stuff He can tell You the coded problem meaning and what part/service is needed to remedy if any, might just need a reset, I eventually purchased a DB II tester for myself as I have multiple vehicles and cant always get to an auto parts store, Good Luck

The rpms are too high, is this normal when driving 70 mph and rpms are at 2500

if you had 4:10 gears in the rear axle maybe. but i,d say your over drive is out. your truck should be running at about 2100 rpms or a little less at 70.

Runs first gear to max rpms before shifting.

You probably have a bad governor pressure sensor and solenoid. The pressure sensor is what normally goes bad ,but from vast experience,i replace both of them together and change fluid and filter.

2000 grand caravan won't go above 70 mph. high rpms

First I need to ask is it a 4 speed or a 3 speed transmission. If it's a 4 speed when driving down the road pull it from drive to third gear. You shpuld hear the engine speed up if it does not then that means you have on 4th gear and you will have to take it to a transmission shop. If it's a 3 speed then just count the shift points if all 3 gears are present then drive down the road and see if the van goes into tcc. When you mean the rpms are high how high are they.
