Question about Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

How can I open the hood from outside my 4Runner? It's locked with the battery disconnected and the locks aren't opening manually with key. So now I need to connect battery but cannot open hood. Any tips?

Take a fully charged battery and jumper cables. Attach the negative post to a ground such as the vecicle frame. Attach the red + cable to the large red cable at the starter (under the truck). This should give you a power supply to open your truck.

How to pop hood from outside of 2004 chevy trailblazer

You cannot release the bonnet from the outside.

In any case the key should open the driver's door manually. You will need to turn it either once or twice in succession. If it will not open then pull on the handle and turn the key in the lock at the same time.

My battery died and I cannot open the doors to open the hood. My key will not work in the one door lock on the car. How can I open the hood from the outside without destroying something?

Opening the hood from the outside can be complicated as in most cases you cannot access the latch assembly. Your key most likely won't work in the door lock due to lack of use causing the lock wafers to become stiff. Use some WD 40 and insert the straw into the lock and spray liberally. Take the key and work it back and forth until it goes in all the way and continue to move the key until the internal lock wafers free up. This procedure normally corrects a stiff/non functionig lock that hasn't been used in a while

Dead battery doors locked

You can do one thing, not sure if it would work, but try this:
1. Go to the drivers front door,
2. There should be a lock in the door, place the key in the lock.
3. Turn the key to one side or the other, by this time you should be able to hear a familiar sound, as when you unlock a door from the inside.
Good luck.

Doors locked

Your door lock mechanism is wire not rods. That's why door won't open. Need to get power somehow. Look under car and see of you can reach up to the hood latch and release mechanism to open hood. If so open hood and hook up a jumper pack. This should allow you to unlock door.

I had to change the battery in my 1999 camry solara. Now the car won't turn over and the factory alarm is blaring. How do I disable the factory alarm? I do not have the original key pad.

this might work...
Open hood ensure new battery is disconnected.
Open main fuse panel cover under hood and remove horn relay (so you don't have to listen to the horn).
Use the key to lock the drivers door.
Connect the positive battery terminal.
Connect the negative battery terminal (security system will now activate, hazards lights will flash and horn would be going off if the relay was not removed).
Use the key to unlock the drivers door.
Get in, close drivers door.
Use the key to start the engine.
Security system will deactivate.
Get out of vehicle, reinstall horn relay, replace fuse panel cover, close hood.

Spray some WD-40 into the key cylinders and then try working the key. The locks seize up because you keep using the FOBs.

If you can get under the hood try to disconnect the negitive cable on the battery for about 15 min, then reconnect it, try to use the remote again.
