It could be the the fuel pump overheated when the car ran out of gas, the only thing that cools the pump is the fuel in the tank, by the way the pump is inside the fuel tank if you did not already know that. some times an old pump that was already weak cant handle the running out of gas, it could also be some thing totally unrelated to the running out of gas, so lets try a few things, when it stalls will it start right back up? or do you have to wait awhile, or crank on it a long time? i ask this because it will help me help you in finding a cause for the stall. if it has to set for awhile before it starts again check to make sure there is spark. that would be some real good info in finding the problem.

so get back with me by the use of the reply button and we will see if we can get this thing fixed.

OK, if it were the pump i dont thik it would start right back up,i think it is more likely a mass air flow sensor, or a crank shaft sensor.....take a hamer handle and tap on the mass air flow sensor if the engine stalls replace the sensor......the only way to test the crankshaft sensor is with a DVOM and a lab scope, but they are not that expensive so you could just replace it and see if it cures the problem.

see if you can barrow a fuel pressure guge, maybe auto zone will lone you one and check the pressure it should be 36-42 psi if not its the pump....good luck

Replace the fuel pump relay
the fuel pump is activated by the oil pressure switch and stays on until the oil pressure is acheived
then the computer shuts that circuit off and turns on the relay to keep the pump running

Try depressing the gas pedal once before cranking. If it fires right up then replace the fuel filter. If not then you may need to replace the cam sensor.
