A cooling system can leak from many places. Hoses, water pump shaft seal or housing gasket, thermostat housing, water inlet/outlet gaskets, heater core, radiator, surge tank/reservoir or even just a faulty radiator cap. Your system is leaking all the time, the reason you don't always see a leak is that the coolant is dripping onto hot engine and exhaust parts and evaporating before it ever reaches the ground. The best way to check for leaks is to pressurize the system with a coolant system pump with the engine cold (this will keep the coolant from evaporating). You can buy or rent this tool at most auto parts stores, or take the car to a reputable repair shop. Hope this helps, good luck.

What angle is the car parked when it does leak? The biggest problem that I have encountered with the Crown Vic is that the intake manifold is plastic and they have a tendency to crack, usually at the rear of the engine but sometimes near the upper radiator hose.
