Car has a skunk like smell and AC question

My daughter's 97 Honda Accord has a skunk like smell that is stonger outside the car than inside. What could this be and how do I get rid of it?

Also, I charged the AC approx 2 months ago, and my daughter just told me that her car makes a sound like something is slidding around in the car when she turns. I just drove it and the sound comes from near the passenger side floor board...when I checked it out I noticed water dripping from under the glover compartment.

Her car is due for an oil change in a few weeks and I was going to have them look into these 2 issues, but wanted to do a little research first.

I'd appreciate any assistance so I know what I can do or what I should prepare for when I take it in.

Any ideas?

Like a Skunk? Really? Did she hit a skunK? Could there be a part of one hung up somewhere or do you think it is the AC problem? I would sure take it to a newer modern car wash facility and tell them about the odor and have the car cleaned as well as possible? Believe it or not my son had a mother mouse take her nest of babies and make a new nest inside the engine well of his truck which he only uses about once a week. You can imagine what happened when he started the truck. strange that the water is coming in at that particular place. hmmm. Just a few thoughts. I'm interested to see what you find out on this one.

Listen isn't a skunk! My elantra smells like a skunk too and I am sure I didn't hit one. I think that it might be my battery; since battery acid and skunk smell are chemically the same. This is what I am checking next.

I have a 97 Accord that has the same problem with the A/C. It makes a noise like something is either caught up in the vents or is moving around when I take turns. Also when I take a turn, water drips out from under the passenger side glove compartment and thats also when the noise happens. I've been reading online that a lot of people say its b/c the hose that gets rid of the condensation (or any other water buildup in the car), gets clogged and only needs to be unclogged. I'm going home after work to try and 'unclog' the hose.

The dripping water is the a/c condensation drain, which is plugged up, as it should be exiting the car and dripping on the ground. It's a small tube which can get blocked by a little 'goop' . This would make the interior smell musty, and gross, as the carpet and carpet pad will soak up the water like a sponge. Since the car smells worse outside, it would seem maybe you did run over a skunk. Did this odor start all at once, or was it over a few days? All at once sounds like a skunk, over a short period of time sounds like a damp and smelly carpet. I admit the 'something sliding around' has me stumped. Unless that skunk is trying to pry himself loose. countrycurt0

Burning smell in turn on the heater and out side to 2004 Honda accord LX 4 Door

Can you tell if the smell is coming more from the outside(under the hood), or the inside? I can only guess from the info so far. If the smell is from under the hood turn the heater on recirculate and you won't smell air from outside the car. Not sure where you are from, but here in New England it is time for mice inside the heater boxes.

Burning smell inside car. Not under hood. What could it be?

I had the same problem with my 2005 Honda Accord. I would happen only sometime but is a distant odor I smell from inside the cabin. Older Hondas sometimes have gasket problems that leak small amounts of oil onto the exhaust manifold. Ask the mechanic to go check the valve cover gaskets. They replaced a new gasket to my car at the Honda dealer and I haven't smelled that burning odor since then. Good luck.

I recently bought a 97 honda civic it has around 140000 miles on it. Well every time i turn the ac on when the car is running it starts to smell like a skunk. I was wondering what that might be? I was told...

Most 90s model vehicles don't have cabin air filters aka pollen filters if you've allergies. The only 2 suggestions I can make regarding the skunk smell is that something is either in a vent that doesn't need to be there and may have been for a while and the other you may have some sort of leak that may be pulling in with the fresh air vent. If this is only occuring while the ac is on I'd look into my first suggestion before trying to find a leak in the engine compartment

I have 97 honda accord 4 door. electric locks

Sounds like a sticking switch ( actuator ) in the door.
Pull off the door panel and , looking inside the door, follow the rod from the key to the actuator .
Clean the actuator and make sure it works freely before re assembly.

I have a Honda accord 95 and it smells like something odd. When I bought it, the seller trashed some cigarette packages to make it seem like it smelled like it was a smoker's car (despite knowing he...

My car had odd smells like that also some funky looking stains on the seats, dash and headliner. I used a product called SimpleGreen in just the spray bottle and a damp washcloth and scrubbed the interior down make sure to keep the windows rolled down its pretty strong, it will get rid of the smoke smell but will replace it with the cleaner smell for a week or so, but after that I didn't have any of odors come back.
