I have 2002 jeep wrangler at speeds between 50 nad 55 mph I get a vibration in the the front steering. I changed the steering damper and had the tires rotaded and balanced and i still have the problem.

have the mounts checked on the control arms, alot of times the can bend slightly due to a "curb" check. Call a local 4X4 shop and tell them you are experiencing the "death shake" they should know what you are talking about. That was the problem on my 02 TJ, i had replaced everything when i noticed that the angle on the control arm looked a little off.

1988 WRANGLER-just replaced 4x4 actuator and now it engages but there is some play with the drive shaft going to the front axle. Is that ok? How can I check if my 4x4 works?

the play is normal the u joints have some play. not much, but some. Do you have open diffs? or Locked? place the Jeep on jack stands and see if the all rotate if you have lockers. If you dont you will have two spin until on looses traction then it will change too the other. Hell take it out and play have your buddies watch the times. Keep your wheels down.

2000 jeep wrangler are sythetic lubes used in axils and trans

Hello grega1967, your Jeep Wrangler came from the factory with gear oil in the axles and manual transmission, but the transfer case uses transmission fluid. It is a NP231 and your axles are Dana 30 in the front and Dana 35 in the rear. They should have a 4.10 gear ratio due to you having a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder.

I hope this helps,

5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.
