Hi, I was curious as to how this finally resolved as I have the same problem with the tail lights, brake lights and the shifter not working unless I press the little lever at the bottom. I replaced fuses, checked bulbs.

    Thanks,

    Kelly

p.s. mine is 93 Nissan Maxima and the one other thing is not working.....the back light on the dash board.

Can you call me I would like to explain some things to you. Or I can call you if it's more convienent.

    253-691-6206 My name is Randy

Disconnect the brake light switch and check for 12 volts on one of the wires if you have power use a "jumper wire from that terminal in the plug to the opposite one in the same plug and see if the brake lights are now on and if it will come out of park

Please email me at fixincars@yahoo.com with the results of this test and tell me if you do or do not have 12 on one wire of the brake light switch connector.

My driver side brake lights went out. I replaced the blubs and the running lights work plus the passenger brake lights work. so I am lost

Its your turn signal switch in the steering colum. just pull your steering wheel and then the switch. I didn,t want to pay $80 for a new one, so I fixed it with bondo! That was about a year ago...still working fine.

Brake lights won't work

-Bulb is good...?
-If so check the push in (On/Off switch) Just above the brake pedal arm. It might be stuck. If it's not stuck, replace new one.

'97 nissan altima, brake lights not working, wire

Lets keep it simple if the wiring harness is in good condition lets not look at that... first check your fuse if the fuse is good... check for power... if you have power coming and going from the fuse then check your brake switch ( located under the dash) attached to brake pedal. Please make sure your light bulbs are both good also. If your brake light switch is good and you have tried everything else it is either going to be in your 4 way switch or wiring harness

Check the brake light switch under the dash at the brake peddle and make sure its working if it does not close when you depress the brake peddle the lights will not work You may hve to remove the lower cover for the dash to get at the switch

Nissan Altima brake light

what that means is your socket is is probably shorted to your running lights there is a constant feed of voltage to that circuit. i would take a circuit probe and trace a wire to the spot of the short. good luck.

1998 Altima

you didn't do that... at least i hope you didn't. first of all... all the dash lights are is a piece of carbon covered plastic... a plastic housing... and some light bulbs... and twith what you just said... i hope you didn't burn out the tracks where the light bulbs go... because you are going to have to go to the dealer just to get that stupid piece of carbon covered plastic... and it's going to cost you close to $40 or better... some of thore are as much as $100 or better, first check the fuses and see if you didn't pop one... i hope you did and it works againg for your sake!!!
