Sounds like you may need to replace the camshaft or crankshaft sensor - about a $10 part (for either) - You could run a scan at the auto parts store to be sure (trusting that the check engine light is on). The replacement is really simple - locate the part (on top of the block) remove wire & screw + replace..
Best regards

Car had been running fine, backfired once and lost a little power momentarily. Parked 24 hours, started right up but backfired and died. Now starts easily but dies without intense pressure on gas pedal.

Sounds like it's fouled a spark plug this happens as the plug wires fail and the power goes to ground instead of firing the fuel. The timing belt could have skipped time but the engine may run smooly but have very little power.65158335.jpgThe plug wires will act like what you say too.340881376.jpgThe boots get electrcal holes in them and they fire to the head instead of the fuel mixture and then it fires sometimes and throws everything of and they run very badly or not at all.

What will make the truck not start up but its getting fire, it wants 2 start but not turn over

Three systems in engines:

Fuel delivery (fuel mixing with air to burn and making it to the spark plugs)

Ignition (lighting the fuel on fire)

Compression Building up pressure to fire the fuel
_______________________________

It is possible your engine could have low compression if it has ever been run low on coolant or oil. The engine might spin or turn over but not have fire at the spark plugs. If you are correct that the spark plugs have fire but it will not "kick" or run then fuel delivery is where I would start. See if your fuel rail has fuel in it by pressing the fuel rail valve:

If you have fuel there under a good amount of pressure see if one of the plugs smells like gas after cranking. If so the problem is not the fuel, move on.
If you don't have fuel at the Schrader valve the problem is in the fuel pump and system.
refer to a manual on how to remove the pump from the tank and replace it. This problem has signs before it goes bad. Hard starts and running rough when hot.

Good luck

Car wont start

if it backfired then there must be spark , (usually) i would suggest checking if there is fuel pressure (listen to hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to the on position) if you dont hear anything then you may have a fuel pump issue..

possible ignition coil pack breaking down...unit cools off them fires plugs again...fuel pressure is a concern also ..possible failing fuel pump

1991 volvo turns over but wont start

If your air mass meter tests good, the I would tell you to check the HIGH PRESSURE PUMP underneath the Driver's side chassis pump holder-next to the fuel filter.

There are 2 pumps on your Volvo---the in-tank low pressure, and the chassis mounted high pressure. The car will run with the in-tank failed and the high pressure good. It will not run with the high pressure failed. Test the pump by applying voltage to the two terminals.

Another common failure, should the high pressure pump be good, is the HALL EFFECT SENSOR located in the distributor on the back of the engine. Once this sensor goes, it's no start. A rebuilt or used distributor may be the answer to your problem.

Engine turns over but won't start

Remove wife from car. Kidding. Check fuel pump fuse. If thats good, check fuel pressure. Low or no pressure you will need a fuel pump. Good luck!
